I am into this long tale of a young boy, Robin Swift, from Canton China with an ear for foreign languages he has picked up and mastered while struggling to survive on monies earned on the docks and waterfronts for translating the many foreign tongues he hears…English, French, Portuguese, etc.

He is taken to London in 1828 by an Oxford language professor , and the saga unfolds as the British Empire expands and his intense tutoring in languages commences. Well written.
