CHER AMI AND MAJOR WHITTLESEY by Kathleen Rooney

A touching and moving story following WWI homing pigeon CHER AMI and Army officer Whittlesey. This novel is based on the history of the famed fighting LOST BATTALION explains the role the heroic birds played in delivering messages on the battlefront in olden days, before portable radios came into play. Her descriptions of the conditions, struggles, and training and possible musings of these amazing carrier pigeons in wartime is phenomenal.

The story of the warriors and their leaders is also quite moving.

Sounds like a marvelous & refreshing story, Amy . . . particularly in this time of wars in the world.

Sad-they called it the war to end all wars. In the book there is an old timer who gets annoyed when the papers start writing articles and calling it the first world war. He believed that there should NEVER be a second one because this was so devastating.

When will we ever learn, when.....
