American Express question

Sorry in advance If this has been brought up already, but we have been surprised on how many places no longer accept AX. It started out with our rental car agency, and has been the case other places we have eaten on the island that accepted it previously. Today at Pearl Beach we were told their machine does not run AX in euros, and if we wanted to use our AX the rate of exchange would be 1.25 and charged in dollars. The receipt showed a different price for AX vs other forms of payment. Is this something new? We don’t remember having such a hard time previously using our AX…we have other cards, but that is always our first choice.

Amex not accepted at many places for a long time. Fees too high. It’s been posted here a few times but not recently.

This has been the case for decades. The big hotels will all take it, but most restaurants and rental agencies will not.
