San Diego after Fifty Years

Senior Insider
We are wrapping up an anniversary trip back to where we met and were engaged. We celebrated at a restaurant that was going strong then and hasn’t missed a step. Found old apartments, schools and the Naval Base San Diego - forever 32nd Street to us. Even toured a ship of the same name and legacy of the one I was aboard when we met. As a side trip made a same-day round trip to Palm Springs to see family at their new house in Indian Wells.

The real star of the week was our stay at the Hotel Del Coronado just across the bridge. The place is absolutely magnificent and getting better on a daily basis with other amenities to be added. A great property that is faithful to her 1888 roots, yet as modern as the iPhone app to open the doors. Staff couldn’t have been nicer and every need is just a text away - never picked up the phone.

A bientôt San Diego.

Congratulations on your 50th, Happy Anniversary. The Hotel Del Coronado, what can you say? It's always been the Hotel Del in my life, and it had always been better on my next visit than it was on my previous visit.

John and Susie….so glad it was all you hoped for and then even more! They say you can’t go home again, but taking a trip back in time can be grand. Safe travels home. Happy Anniversary. And keep taking good care of each other,

Happy Anniversary. Stayed at the Del many years ago- happy memories. Remember watching the planes take off from the Naval Base. And a side trip to Tijuana and the restaurant where the Caesar Salad was born.

Congratulations! . . . and thank you for sharing your anniversary celebration! So great that you could familiarly & happily return to a walk down memory lane!

Happy Anniversary and many more. Those are very nice photos. We've never visited San Diego together although I was there 50 years ago. I'd enjoy seeing the town again I'm sure, and I'm sure it has changed a lot since the early 70s. Nice looking glass of red wine, from further up the coast, no doubt.

Upon departure I got one more look at South Mission Beach and the rental house where we met!

There's a novel here just waiting to be written.

"Fairy tales do come true, it could happen to you, if you're young at heart."

John and susie, Keep taking good care of each other for at least 50 more!
