    Rest in Peace Steven Sondheim

This was aired earlier this year and is a fitting tribute. Working to the very end.

    Such a brilliant composer & lyricist . . . From Company:

    Somebody crowd me with love
    Somebody force me to care
    Somebody make me come through
I’ll always be there, as frightened as you
To help us survive being alive

A wonderful S.S. anecdote from the person who ran the Wolf Trap Opera company for many years.

I saw a couple of his shows in Phila years ago, wonderful memory. He grew up in Doylestown PA with a horrible mother I read yesterday, while I grew up on the other side of Phila. in Bryn Mawr, with a horrible father.

Well, his mother did introduce him to Oscar Hammerstein who changed his life for the better.

Hammerstein’s “Notes on Lyrics”, a 1949 essay on writing for musical theatre, provides an idea of the advice given to Sondheim, who learned well. (full essay and some selected quotes).
