Heartwarming piece on Tony and his Lady

WOW...what a guy and what a closing act he and Lady Gaga performed. Could not ask for a better closing.

What an amazing man and performer Tony Bennett is, and the duo of he and Gaga is absolutely heartfelt magic. Thanks for posting, John.

ViacomCBS has announced a new partnership with Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, ahead of the upcoming release of their new album, Love For Sale, which is set to be released October 1. The album honors the songbook of Cole Porter, and is the second and final collaboration album between the powerhouse duo.
Variety reports that the first special to premiere will be a broadcast of "One Last Time: An Evening With Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga", a concert special that was filmed at the pair's sold-out concerts at Radio City Music Hall. The first date coincided with Bennett's 95th birthday, also marking his final public performances. The special will air on CBS the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend at 8 p.m. ET.

Tony Bennett so cool. I heard he was Sinatra's favorite male vocalist.

A recording of a shared bill from 1988...

Sinatra said something along these lines a few times, most famously in a mid 60's Life magazine article that provided a quote of Frank calling Tony "the best singer in the business, the best exponent of a song" (Columbia happily included this on the back cover of one of Tony's greatest hits albums)... during the concert linked above, Frank calls Tony "maybe the best pop singer in the whole world today".

Years ago we attended a Tony concert at the outdoor Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, actually in Fairmount Park, not in center city. Diana Krall was his opener, then just starting out. While she was doing her intro, a cell phone rang, she stopped singing or speaking when that happened, and said to the person rather angrily to turn it off, that Mr. Bennett wouldn't like it if that happened while he was performing. That was in the infancy of cell phones, I think there was applause after what she said. And Tony was wonderful in his what I think was sharkskin blue suit, he seemed to like that fabric & color. Truly amazing man !

Three years ago he came to Wolf Trap (seating 7K) for a solo concert and 2/3 of the way through the show Gaga stepped out of her seat in row F and came onstage to finish the show with him. Totally unannounced!
