"Enhanced collective immunity" according to the ARS

The first phase of the Vovid-19 vaccination campaign in Saint-Barth ended last Friday with the closure of the Saint John Stadium. With 53% of the vaccinated population, the Regional Health Agency estimates that the island was a big step towards collective immunity.
An excellent balance sheet. A few days after the closure of the Vaccination Center of the Stadium of Saint John, the Regional Health Agency welcomes the results obtained during the "massive campaign" launched on April 20 in Saint-Bar-Thélemy. Last Friday, when the volunteers of the Red Cross closed the stadium grids, 3417 people had taken the process of coming to get there inoculate a first dose of the Pfizer Biontech vaccine. At the same time, 254 reminders could be insured.

Recognizing a total of 5,345 people vaccinated on the island, or 53% of the population according to the figures, the ARS estimates that "collective immunity is strongly strengthened" in Saint-Barthélemy. A finding that slides with that, more alarmous, carried out by the prefecture and the agency in Saint-Martin (read below). For staff engaged on the Saint John Disposition, such a result is a satisfaction.
"Everything happened very well," says Christine, Member of the team

The Saint John vaccination center closed on Friday, May 7 after having welcomed 3417 people wishing to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
With really nice people. I was waiting for more people, but in the whole thing was a good experience. The "Vaccinodrome" operation was brought by the community, the prefecture, the ARS, the hospital, local health professionals and, of course, the Red Cross. It is the association that took over the coordination of all the available for three weeks.

With the help of pompalers and some members of Rotary Club The Regional Health Agency is now turning to the second phase of vaccination.

This is programme wil go from 25 May to 4 June.

It will aim to ensure reminders for people who received a first vaccine injection. However, "with regard to the interest of the population for vaccination," says the ARS, undecis or "retarders" will have the opportunity to receive a first injection during the reopening of the center of Saint -Jeans.

The Red Cross presents the duration of the operation. The teams feel fatigue. It took us a lot of energy. Even if the objectives set by the ARS and the prefecture are not reached, we were there until the end to accommodate
people and accompany them. It was an outstanding device and we learned a lot. The exchanges were very rich with all participants, caregivers and others. »

Second phase of 25Maiau4Juine nurse, Justine has volunteered to integrate the teams from the Red Cross. "I wanted to have this experience," she says. I found the top organization. Everything was very well framed,

Worries IN SAINT-MARTIN

In one week, sixty-four new confirmed cases of Covid-19 were diagnosed in Saint-Martin.

For several weeks, the island has observed a certain stability with about twenty cases on average. This sudden resumption of the "epidemic" immediately put the prefecture and the ARS in charge.

"The signal is orange but if it were to turn red by the end of this week, I would have to take action
strong ”, thus declared to our colleague of the Soualiga Post the prefect Serge Gouteyron, who regrets a relaxation within the population:“

We have observed a certain recklessness for ten days. The pandemic is still ongoing and the virus continues to circulate on the island. "

France, which has formally announced that their borders will open to international tourists June 9th, has achieved a vaccination rate of <30%. SBH, with a rate of over 50%, still has no official, advertised tourism information. Are we to assume that SBH won't open completely until June 9th? It seems strange that nothing has been announced.

Last I heard, May 15th was the date to evaluate vaccination progress and cement a formal decision between the Island and France. The various unoffical ways onto the island continue to confuse visitors. Note today's many posts seeking afirmation of this or that.

As far as I know, all of the people vaccinated at the stadium have only gotten one shot (Pfizer), and need to go back for the second after it reopens on May 24 for a few weeks... so does half vaccinated count in the statistics?

Good point. However, if that was the case, why not say you'll re-evaluate after the second phase (as opposed to May 15th)?

The efficacy of the Pfizer vaccine reached 92.6%, during the interval friom 14 days after the first dose to administration of the second dose on day 21, essentially the same as the 94.8% at 7 days after dose 2 (although with direct comparison limited by number cases in the single week grouping). During vaccine rollouts in Israel and England, effectiveness of 85%-89% by 14 days after the first dose was reported.

The two dose protocol chosen for the clinical trial was based on pretrial assessment of the immune response from one vs. two doses so there will be uncertainty as to whether protection by a single dose will be as durable or as strong vs. variants as from two doses. That is discussed here.

Not good news for St. Maarten. It almost sounds like a ‘free for all’ meaning little or no adherence to health guidelines and no penalties for establishments doing so.
