This is what we buy on SBH. It does not have DEET listed in ingredients list

How about some DEET-free options?

Some people on Saint Barth are trying to protect what's left of the "environment" but with the thousands of gallons of fossil fuel burned weekly to create more and more energy, people who insist of freezing cold houses and heated swimming pools, they don't stand much of a chance... the Christopher Hotel has a nice eco-friendly program - one of the things they suggest is sleeping with the air-conditioning between 26-28°C.. we don't sleep with AC, so I imagine that would be comfortable enough but the hotel says most people set the AC closer to 23°C and leave it on all day even when not in the room, something else they are asking people not to do... we'll see if they get any takers....

this is their manifesto:
WORKING TOGETHER FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT

#ChristopherForEnvironment

At the Christopher, we are extremely aware of the increasing impact of tourism on the environment, especially on an island like St. Barthélemy. Since 2019, we have been taking important steps to improve the social and environmental management of our property, by encouraging simple, yet effective, measures.

Saving Water

Water is not an inexhaustible resource… At the Christopher, we have our own water-treatment and desalination systems, which allow us to be autonomous in terms of water production for the entire property. All equipment at the hotel, from the irrigation of plants to regulators on the faucets, optimizes careful management of our water.

How can you help? If you want your towels changed, please place them on the floor. But like your sheets, towels do not need to be changed every day.

Energy Efficiency

By improving the energy efficiency of our hotel and by not wasting energy, we are taking a big step toward reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, and contributing to the preservation of our planet’s natural resources. Our air-conditioning systems were chosen for their energy efficiency, and all of the lightbulbs used at the hotel are low consumption. The hotel also has two electric cars and pedal-powered bicycle carts.

How can you help? We ask you to please turn off all electrical appliances when they are not in use, as well as the lights and the air-conditioning when you leave the room. Avoid opening the windows when the air-conditioning is turned on, and please keep the temperature at a reasonable level (between 26 and 28 degrees centigrade).

Limiting and Managing Our Trash

Reducing, separating, and recycling our trash are now integral parts of our daily routine! Other improvements include electronic check-in and check-out, and a preference for eco-friendly products and purchases. All of our plastic cups have been replaced by mugs and glassware, our straws are ecological, and our printing is done on recycled paper.

How can you help? Manage your trash using the two trashcans provided in your room, separating all glass and metal from the rest,

Protecting Our Environment

With a variety of 16 different plants and tropical flowers, the hotel puts nature at the heart of the client experience and invites you to stroll in the gardens to enjoy the various species that surround you. We also sponsor several projects that promote environmental protection and raise awareness for our staff, such as island-wide clean-ups or events dedicated to the discovery of local flora and fauna.

How can you help? Our concierge service can suggest myriad activities that teach you about the heritage, history, and biodiversity of the island of St Barthélémy. Do not hesitate to make an appointment.

Thank you for your contribution in helping us reach our environmental goals.

I bought something like once and the bugs loved it, danced around it all night, I wouldn't recommend it...
