Hawaii in the news

Just got back from Maui. The people of Hawaii are much more concerned about the virus than mainlander tourists. The ritual of presenting your bona fides for entry (negative PCR test) is quite an ordeal for the weary visitor arriving in Maui. LONG line for some one to check your SafeTravels app for things already scrutinized prior to mainland departure. New is a required rapid test at the airport upon arrival (we managed to avoid that by a few days). The passport Gov Ige is proposing is for interisland travel, not mainland visitors. The impact on tourism is palpable. Restaurants closed or understaffed. Kauai is even tighter than Maui as far as tourists go. This can't last much longer.

One wonders if SBH should be doing something similar to protect its residents instead of what has been described on other threads as almost unhampered entry from a covid perspective.
