FATAL COLLISION BETWEEN TWO SCOOTERS IN LORIENT O 04/12/2021 Yesterday morning (Sunday April 11), around 5.30 a.m., a Saint-Barth in his thirties died in a collision between two scooters. The accident occurred in Lorient, near the Oasis. The gendarmerie indicates that the shock between the two devices was frontal. The driver of the second scooter involved in the collision, also a man in his 30s who works on the island, was taken to hospital. Injured, his vital prognosis was not engaged at the time of his hospitalization. An investigation was opened to determine the exact circumstances of the accident, such as speed, direction of traffic or any traces of alcohol or psychotropic drugs in the body of the two drivers. The gendarmerie emphasizes that blood samples were taken. As toxicological analyzes cannot be carried out in Saint-Barth, the results will only be known in a fortnight.
 
Are helmets required by law on St Barths ? Over 20+ years of visits, I don't recall seeing anyone wearing one.
Reading reports of deaths & terrible injuries always so sad no matter the age, my sympathy to the families.
 
There is a helmet law and most people do wear them. They may not fit and may come off upon impact.
