CODE BREAKER by Walter Isaacson

Senior Insider
Isaacson is a wonderful writer and an easily readable biographer and teacher. This book was as easy to read as his book about Apple’s Steve Jobs. This is the story of a girl who reads about DNA in the THE DOUBLE HELIX. She is 12 when her Dad leaves a copy for her to read. Against the odds, she becomes a woman of science...not a popular endeavor at all. We follow Jennifer Doudna’s interest in RNA and her education, early pursuits, and her part in helping develop the method of attack on the Covid 19 virus. Isaacson makes this trek a pleasurable journey for anyone interested in the science behind the vaccines. I feel it was well worth the time to read about this fascinating woman’s career.

Lots of responses from fellow readers who jumped in to start reading it.And all good comments too.

I haven’t been available for much conversation this week.

That is an excellent photo of the Cold Spring Harbor lab complex on the Isle of Long, not too far away from our home base.

Just finished the book. What a great and timely read! Now on to Leonardo da Vinci!

A terrific read for an insight into the history of biotech up to the pandemic.

John, I would bet Isaacson’s da Vinci will be another good read.
