    Not this year

Phil, I'm sorry that we made our trip in December this year (well, not really 'cause we had a great time), but your happy hour parties are a blast. I'd encourage anyone on the island to stop by and...

    Re: La Marine Restaurant

In early December, a group of six of us went for lunch. Everyone ordered mussels and frites and they were terrific. With several bottles of Sancerre and rose', we had a great time.

    The weird...
  3. Hertz was fine

    SBP--

I had a Hertz vehicle of some kind in December (Vitara? Samurai? They look the same to me...) and it was fine. It ran well, could have used me more horsepower, but not bad. Don't be...

    Re: Vieques?

    Josh--

Did you see the threads in the Puerto Rico/Dominican section of the board? There are several about Vieques. I am going back for the third time in April. The last time I was there was two...

    Quick trip summary 11/30-12/8

It was our fourth trip, and our first in a villa (SIB SKY) and with other people.

Travel back and forth was relatively straightforward (CLE-MIA-SXM-SBH). Anytime I can make it all the way down or...

    A couple of comments:

We will be down about the same time and aren't making any reservations ahead of time. Until a few days before Christmas, I don't think that the island will be anywhere near...
  7. I talked to Henry's

I just got off the phone with someone at Henry's and he assured me that they would be open. He found my reservation and read it back to me. I feel much better.

I bet that there is a dispute...
  8. According to Hertz...

I am in the same position. I have a reservation to pick-up a car from Henry's via a Hertz reservation two weeks from today. I just got off the phone with Hertz Gold International reservations and...

    St. Barth Commuter website problem?

I was visiting the St. Barth Commuter website (stbarthcommuter.com) to make reservations and it is shut down, at least temporarily. The message is "This website is closed for the moment". Does...

    Re: Running

Flamands Beach is where I've had the best luck. The roads scare the pants off of me, at least in the afternoon when I am likely to run. If you get out first thing you might be able to run the...

    SIB JAC comments?

We have three couples meeting in SBH and are narrowing down our choices. JAC looks like the best choice, but I can't find any first-hand info. (Did it just change names?) I'd love to hear from a...

We missed the Blu Macaw and would be sad to see Media Luna go away. We didn't see anything new besides the two that you mentioned. There will always be a lot of turnover in the restaurant business,...

    Vieques Trip

My wife and I went back to Vieques last week. Our first visit was six years ago, while the Navy was still using it as a target, and we found that it had changed significantly, though mostly in good...

    I was too

I hate to be the one to suggest that you not go, but we decided against a trip this year because of the exchange rate. We went last year, and we'll go next year, but this year we're going to Vieques...

  19. Re: Help planning honeymoon 8/22/05 - 8/29/05

You've brought up a ton of questions. It sounds like you would enjoy St. Barts, but it isn't the easiest place to get to and from. Flights are always more expensive to SXM than they seem like they...

What do you like? Where have you been and did you like it? There's a ton of great choices in that area.

Re: Vieques/Inn on the Blue Horizon

Hey, very cool. We are skipping St. Barts this spring and going back to Vieques for a week. The euro vs. the dollar is the main reason, but flying there is a lot easier too. We found a cool...

How about GS for that mysterious Gallic Shrug? It can mean "yes", "no", "who cares", "tough luck", "maybe tomorrow" or "everything has a price". Like most subtle gestures, it's tough to reproduce...

    Re: St. Barths Commuter

Easy, if you don't have checked luggage. We took SBC in April and ended up with a private ride, all for 90Euro RT. One of the employees met us as we were arriving in St. Martin with a little card...

    Friday is not the answer

The experience that you described in SXM with AA was exactly what we went through on Good Friday. An hour and a half standing in a line that barely moved, then a mad rush to get the Miami plane out....
  26. Try Rout des Boucaniers

It's in Gustavia, right on the corner of the harbor. You can watch the boat traffic and unwind. The food is mostly Creole with some old French bistro classics thrown in.

  27. 90 euros Round Trip

I made reservations in advance via fax. I recommend them. For significantly less money, we had much better service than WinAir.

    Jeff
  28. To SXM only

I used AA miles to fly to SXM last week. There's no way to get all the way to SBH w/AA miles. I used St. Bart's Commuter (90euros) for the last leg and was very happy.

  29. Eric and Doug

Isn't it funny how often you run into the same people on the island, once you have met them.

So more than half of our snorkeling trip was made up of people that post or lurk here? It sounds...
  30. Food costs

Let's see, I didn't pay anything for breakfast and we only had two lunches out. Otherwise, we had yogurt, bread, cheese and pate from the grocery store. Pizzas at Andy's were 11-13 euros, a...
  31. Yes, AA

Yes, we used AA FF miles to go free. One stop in Miami to SXM. With the time change on the Miami flight, it will be more complicated. Hopefully, there will be a better way soon because I'm already...

  34. Stoopid question: Pronouncing "St. Jean"?

I figure that by the time I make my third trip, I should know, but I don't.

Is it "Saint Gene"? "San John"?

Perfect. We'll be there (just two of us, unless we've adopted a SBH street urchin).
