depends on what “normal” means. I’ve worked everyday like “normal” this year. just flew to Florida and back for a “normal” vacation. Other than obligatory mask  on airplane. cruises may well be some time to return to “normal”. That I wouldn’t dispute.

What we took for granted has been taken away from us. We would like to take a cruise a year from now, but will it be safe by then? On the news this morning Dr. Fauci stated that it will be likely the end of 2021 or 2022 before we get back to anything resembling a sense of normalcy.

Has been top of our dining list for past 30 plus years..remote location, stunning peaceful setting with view of twinkling lights in harbor, the joyful greeting from Dora, chats with Randy and Maya about the evenings specials, and for us every bite of our meal is a culinary delight. Looking forward to finally getting back there this April...

We are huge fans of Maya's, and have been since our first trip to the island back in '96. We usually dine there at least twice during our trips for all the great reasons stated above. Maya and Randy always make you feel at home, and Dora....well, she is da bomb!!! Can't wait to get back next April. Oh, did I mention Maya's gateau au chocolat??! To DIE for!

Bravo Dennis. Once again you have posted a wonderful story along with your own personal appreciation of an island icon. I agree with the specialness of Randy and Maya’s establishment. You get to see a restaurant celebrate 25 or 30, 35 or now 36 years of support only when it is doing something right. Year after year this has become a marvelous dining experience for us. Like Dennis, we have made island friends and fellow tourists into friends while enjoying the evening meal. The nightly menu changes but there are many favorites that pop up regularly. If Maya has the ingredients ,she willingly whips up something to your taste. And her lead hostess, Dora, is beyond compare.if she knows you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary she will add her delightful touch to your table or...

Does this mean that Air France will no longer be landing at SXM, or at least not with passengers? The airline does carry a lot of material goods to the islands. I'm thinking that European visitors in general will not be seen on SXM or SBH from the lock down in europe.

I’ve hesitated to respond to this query because, though perhaps not known to some who currently participate in the Forum, it is a topic that has come to be threadbare through years of discussion. I expect that a search of “Maya” would show hundreds of discussions of pro’s & con’s of the restaurant and its service, food, & ambience. Which is not to say that the “horse” cannot be beaten another time. As a result, I’ll initially jump into the conversation to say that I probably have been going to the restaurant longer than anyone else on the Forum . . . my first visit occurring in the restaurant’s second or third opening week. I think it was 1984. I had a memorably great time that night . . . I still remember the table & the guests who had invited me to join them. On the other...

I posted this in the COVID thread. It won't hurt to cross-post it here: From the Prefecture, translation by Google: The President of the Republic Emmanuel MACRON has just announced the establishment of a second containment throughout the national territory. This aims to stem the spread of the covid-19 epidemic. The overseas prefects can adapt these measures to suit local situations. Since the beginning of March, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy have respectively 566 and 83 confirmed; 10 people died. During the week of October 19 to October 25, 25 additional cases were recorded in Saint-Martin and 6 in Saint-Barthélemy. The incidence rates (number of people positive for covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants) and positivity (number of people positive for covid-19 on the...
