Depends what one is shopping for. If you just arrived on the island and are stocking the Villa, it is the can’t wait to open the chilled Rose and consume some of those delicious cheeses and pates. If you are shopping for say hardware to replace what has bean corroded by the salt in the air at your villa Dennis for example than UGH! Everything is “free” on the island until the credit card bill comes when you are back on the mainland. After all those Euros are ‘funny money” aren’t they? LOL!

We are reading about a global shortage of potatoes due to excessive rain and poor growing conditions worldwide. McDonalds, the largest purchaser of potatoes is apparently quite concerned. We sure hope this doesn’t impact the delicious Frites from David at Santa Fe with his moules, the Frites at Mango or Repaire and the many other locales on the island that serve up delicious frites!

Beef Tartar at l’Ardoise. We eat Tartar everywhere on the island when it is offered and it is always fun to taste the different recipes.

I disagree with the above recommendations. Any of the restaurants with a bar are happy to serve you dinner. Many people travel alone and restaurants understand the aloneness one can have sitting at a table vs. chatting with the bartender/dress or a person sitting next to you. Choose any restaurant you wish and they will/should be happy to serve you at the bar. Call ahead and ask if you are concerned. Sant Fe does, as do Tamarin, Orega, Repaire and Isola to name a few but we don’t know with the new Eden Rock (Sand Bar) or at the Gustaf.

Alan Alda and Michael Douglas are every bit as good and funny as in Season 1. Eight 25 minute episodes go by quickly and leave you yearning for more. The dry humor about aging, death, friendship and love is a rare combination that these two actors seem to successfully accomplish without even working at it. You have to listen carefully as some of the funniest lines are said quietly and quickly. Enjoy and be prepared to smile and maybe shed a tear or two.

The entire series of 8 episodes takes place in modern day Venezuela. Corruption, treachery from surprise characters, lots of military gun battles, and in the end our hero gets the job done. This is as good as the first series and well worth your time. On Amazon Prime.

Book 3 in the Livia Lone series. Some of you may remember John Rain who is also authored by Eisler. Livia is after a kidnapping, rapist, murder pair that involves all the way up to the U.S. Veep. She gets the job done with a little help from her friends. A good read.

We love eating at the bar back home. Here, it's just not the norm. The new Sand Bar at the Eden Rock hotel has a beautiful bar but I think they would frown on someone wanting a full meal there.

I’m unclear on what you’re looking for. Are you looking to find a good place to eat dinner, or are you looking to dine at a top restaurant? You could do that at Le Repaire, but you could probably get a table too. (Check the Specials Board) I’ve seen people eating dinner at the bar at Santa Fé. (Pressé de Cochon de Lait, I’m just sayin’...) You might be able to get a seat at the Sushi Bar at Orega. Chances of getting a walk-in seat at the bar at L’Isola aren’t great.

I'll be back on our favorite island soon and was wondering if you can recommend restaurants where you can walk in (no reservation) and sit at the bar and have a good experience including the full menu to choose from.

I will pull up my contract but I don't think it says anything and they probably have in fine print they can change it at any time. This will be my 7th time renting with Eden Rock Villa Rentals, the year Irma Hit we stayed at Tom Beach, before it was Pearl So I am pretty versed on how it has been for the past few years. Even when they had the pop up beach in Lorient they didn't make you eat lunch to use them.

Do you have the email of ‘what’ you read’ originally when you signed the contract? Of course there may be small letters that says they have the right to change anything. It is one thing to say you thought you read or remember differently and to have the original contract in writing, including the issue of the lounge chairs. Please post the original’rules’ as it would be interesting to compare. Make sure you hit all the travel sites with your stort- trip advisor, expedia, Robb Report, the luxury ones, Yelp and so on. Also have friends place them on the foreign sites. Reviews matter. Maybe Ellen will put this story in the Journal and help with Le News even though ER and Maurice are prominent advertisers? You are not to blame for this.

We've driven by that property many times this trip. Kevim describes it well. Driving the road to saline, turn right at Tamerin. You pass it just before the twisty turney part of he road. The he views out towards St. Jean are stunning.

Eden Rock has been charging a higher service fee (12%) than other agencies. You have a reasonable expectation to receive all services that were listed at the time that you booked. The opening of the hotel certainly affects Eden Rock's ability to provide beach chairs to villa renters but the opening of the hotel was expected so advertising services that would likely not be available would be a bit shady. The bigger ticket item though is the car rental for which it seems that there is a ~40% service fee. I agree with Kevin - Eden Rock could resolve this. To fall back on an excuse that Maurice won't budge strikes me as disingenuous, at best. Eden Rock should be sending enough business to Maurice to enable a favorable resolution on behalf of a villa renter who has entrusted the agency....

That location is in a little corner of Lurin, right on the edge of the "Sous le Vent" (Leeward) side of the island, and the "Au Vent" (Windward) side of the island. Looking at the Pin on the map, it is either in or near the Col Tourterelle (Turtledove Pass) between Morne Lurin and Morne Dépoudré.

Also something I just picked up on the eden rock website. Before when you rented through eden rock you got use of the beach chairs and umbrellas included. I just noticed they changed the wording on their website saying if you rent a villa you can use the lounge chairs only if you have reservations at the restaurant. This is totally new and not what I was told when I booked. Very bait and switch. I am going to email them about this as well

Is that on the way to Gouvenour's from St. Jean? If so I too have passed it many times. Is it considered as part of Lurin or Gouverneur?
