This is worth repeating -- in 2017, Christie's said that the average starting price for a luxury home on St. Barths was $8MM (US)! About $8.5MM today. The statistic cries out for a definition of "luxury."

Mrs. Rivertrash and I both got the first shot of the Moderna vaccine last week at the Vail Health Hospital in Vail. Have appointments for the second shot 28 days later in February.

On a side note regarding the price of a villa, a 2017 Christie's report on real estate around the world placed St. Barths number two for the average staring price for a luxury home. I am unable to copy and paste the report. Number one was Monaco at 10 million USD, St. Barths 8 million USD. And we know prices have not dropped. There was a Levittown in PA too, built by same company, town name eventually changed. When I worked on St Croix in 68 for a year, he had his yacht with baby grand at the dock by the hotel where I worked. The yacht was painted blue, don't remember the name.

SC was to open 1/15 for 75+, then couple days earlier that became 70+, so on appointed day I filled out & submitted the form online, waited a day, nothing back for filling out another form to get to appointments at 2 hospitals that serve our part of SC. Next day, did again, got back the ok & filled out that form which took me to appointments...unable to get anything at the closer hospital, so now to Hilton Head Hosp on 2/19 a Friday afternoon for a 3:20pm appt. Worst time to go to the island with just 1 set of bridges, but I grabbed it. Neighbors same hospital...27 Jan. Had I chosen Beaufort Hosp, I would have been 1 of 6000 cancelled appointments made into March, not enough vaccine. Can I say 'crapshoot' here ?

In the ever evolving mixed messages rules, it appears that, for the first time since the pandemic became evident, there are restriction on inter-island travel.....except SXM? As I recall, many of the early cases were identified as originating by way of visitor/workers from neighboring islands, but I believe, up until this most recent iteration. they were not subject to any testing requirements or quarantines. I believe that now they are subject to some rules? It also appears perhaps now that visitors from France have a new set of rules to follow - testing affidavits, quarantine, testing - but perhaps not visitors from other European countries or say, like, Russia or the U.S.? Just not clear, in terms of offering relatively reliable (consistent) protection for the residents (or...

I stumbled on that sentence too! I can't imagine the struggle this is causing as I have often wondered how many of the local people afford housing and on the other hand I am saddened by watching the island continually take green space. As a visitor every 5 years or so, it is always shocking to me the growth that takes place between each visit.

Hi Amy, I am happy to be back home . airports were a breeze. the only thing that concerned me was when I was flying from salt lake city to washington reagon airport. I was flying back on January 6th , I had no idea anything was happening in dc. all passengers were met at the gate for the plane by armed security. we all had to go through an extra check plus all our purses were emptied out etc. the gate agent told us she did not have a clue to what was going on. I asked one of the agents if there was a problem with this flight, and he said no. He said today any flight going to dc had to have extra precautions taken. about half way through the flight, we started seeing all that was happening in dc on the news shows. it was quite frightening. Welcome home. How were flights and airports? Uneventful I hope. People have to do what they feel comfortable with.staying put or traveling around. Age also is a determinant and of course pre existing and compromised health issues count. Lots to consider when making choices.

I totally disagree with jek's advice about visiting here now. One cannot live their life in fear, if you do, then you are not living you are only existing. I was in the states for 3 weeks and I am now back on this island. I traveled to 4 different states while I was on vacation. I went skiing and had a great time. the lift lines for skiing were less and they practiced social distancing. they would not allow anyone on the ski lift with me unless they were related to me. I think traveling here with a negative pcr test is safe. The island is as safe if not safer than any place in the usa.

Yes, this is true. The locals have been priced out of reasonable homes for years. This seems to be one way to help with this issue.

I advise waiting until 2022 when the coast is clear. Too many worries on entrance protocols and the aforementioned cancellation policies. Not to mention health risks.

Its pretty much island wide. before during or after covid. the policy remains the same for cancellations. get travel insurance if you wish to come here that might include some kind of covid insurance.

So....as a preview...been to SB probably 25 times since 1989 when my wife and I honeymooned on St. Maarten and took a day trip over...We immediately "got it"...and it's been our second home for years with my kids growing up there... Here is my problem in this Covid world.... Are the cancellation policies on the island basically pre-Covid? I went to make a reservation at Les Ilets de la Plage...for many years, it was a big villa for the family, but now it's just the wife and I and we prefer a simple accomodation...I recognize that every establishment is allowed to set their own policy, but it's making life difficult to book on the island... Been to Aruba a couple of times...surely not SB...but I can book an entire vacation and cancel the day before. Did I run into just a more...
