Bob, I had the same thought upon seeing this old tree. So much like Tamarin’s lost tree.

I can see Phil and Amy making the easy drive down the hill from their perch in Lurin to check out the comfort food with salted caramel crepe for dessert :-)

Hey sixweeks, Great picture capture of the new La Licorne. I love the painted 55-gallon drums, very clever. Love the big tree, one of our party said, kinda reminded them of Tamarin in years past. La Licorne opens at 10:00am with a great assortment of Crepes from which to choose for a late breakfast. At least, late for me. I am the 5:00am Bakery kind of guy.

Hello SixWeeks, Ahhh, the tartufata pizza. I enjoyed Remy's creation last week, he is the pizza master. Oh, how I wish I could have enjoyed that for lunch today vs. the lousy food I ate for lunch at work. I'm in countdown mode until my next trip.

Wonderful pizza creation... filling and then the leftovers are great nibbles to have in the freezer for reheating and snacking.

We enjoyed a plat du jour last week consisting of BBQ chicken, ribs, and sausage with a choice of green pepper sauce or BBQ sauce, and frites. We had one of their salted caramel crepes for dessert. Loved the food and vibe!

What memories. We stayed at the Caravanserai on our 2nd trip to St Martin more than 40 years ago and before it became a timeshare. The bar was located in a gazebo on a peninsula that jutted out to the water. A very nice place at the time.

If you read the daily specials, in depth, Mahi-Mahi cooked in foil is offered by many establishments. I'm sure La Licorne will do a fine job but they are not innovators, it is very common at many restaurants.

I think that Chez Dom was located where the Victoire boutique is today, and where Café Victoire was next door. It was gone prior to the creation of my first Resto List circa 2004/2005.

Not on St. Maarten / St. Martin -- on SBH, it appears that "Hotel Barriere Le Carl Gustaf" is drawing near to an opening. Chefs for its Fouquet's St. Barth restaurant are arriving on the island, and rooms are available as of March 1.

. . . another ancient memory -- La Gloriette Restaurant when it was operated by a fellow named Dom, who was brother-in-law of Albert . . . then the proprietor of nearby Restaurant Flamboyant. After a great afternoon in conversation with Dom, in early days of the restaurant, he gave me a napkin on which he wrote "Free Drink," signed his name, and told me to take it to Restaurant Flamboyant. Which I did for dinner that evening. Albert, going along with Dom's sense of humor, of course gave me a free drink, and as I was leaving after dinner, gave me a napkin -- "Your turn free drink." While Dom ran La Gloriette & Flamboyant was open, the back & forth continued during each island visit . . . to much laughter among the three of us. After a few years (the period was early 80s), Albert...

Fish “en papillote” is one of the easiest ways to cook fish, whether you use the traditional parchment pouch or aluminum foil. Done right, it’s hard to overcook the fish, and it comes out moist every time. I don’t know how La Licorne will prepare it, but we add julienned vegetables to the pouch, and a splash of liquid such as white wine.

The hotel being reopened as the Morgan has a bit of history to it. It was once a timeshare known as the Caravanserai. It was purchased out of either foreclosure or bankruptcy, I don’t recall which. There was animosity between the new owners and those who had purchased timeshare weeks, followed by court cases. It reopened pre-Irma as Alegria. It is now reopening as the Morgan. I’m not sure that the Planet Hollywood hotel has broken ground yet. Secrets is an all-inclusive opening on Anse Marcel in the former Le Meridian (Radisson, Riu) location. Adonis is the only one of the hotels in the article which I’ve heard nothing about, other than past articles in the Caribbean Journal.
