Wow. You were kind, but your experience speaks words to me about Turbe. In my experience, Gumbs would be a better choice.

Good explanation, and usually the singing of Christmas songs around here goes on the entire month of December, and is referred to as Chanté Nwèl... in Créole... my guess is the tradition came from the French Créole speaking islands... should be more of the same once the Christmas Village opens on the dock later this week, I think on Wednesday...

As Ellen noted, the Christmas Truck is a thing. To add some context, Chant Noel is a thing, with traditional Christmas songs being sung around the island. The truck is a mobile version of the Chant Noel. It does tour various parts of the island, but it ends up at the street in front of Le Select, where it stays for hours. My viewpoint is to expect it, enjoy it, and embrace it.

Maybe you didn't stay long enough, the Christmas truck came back and parked in front of Le Select for about two hours with a huge crowd of people dancing in the street.. quite an impromptu party...

Well, it’s been a great week. Our delayed honeymoon was memorable, mostly good with the occasional blemish which I’ll go into first. Car rental issue 2nd straight year at Turbe. Last visit was the constant tire pressure warning on the mini cooper. Was told both times to drive it to Grand-Cul-de-Sac, which we did. Waited for repair both times & continue using. This thing me the Mini started chugging & not wanting to make it up any hills. Managed to get it back to the agency & again they told me I had to return to their facility at Grand-Cul-de-Sac. I refused since the thing had a “drivetran” warning light & it was sounding terrible. Basically I returned it a day early, no discount for loosing a day & was told I was on my own to find another car. Luckily Top Loc took care of me. The guy...

Just back from 2 weeks on St Barth. Will try to keep this concise as there is much to report ; ) Transit through SXM was fine, always easier on way in with SBC. Yesterday, on way out, though crowded, it didn’t take too long, it depends on what airline you are flying as the check in lines varied in length. We flew JB and had no problem. They seem to have eased the entry lines a bit on the way back through/initial immigration. Signs said airport unfortunately not set to be finished until 2023. Testing was easy for exit from sbh—we used the red cross tents. The lines at the airport pharmacy can be long but I just read that starting 12/6—with the new 24hr testing rule for re-entry to US-- all 3 island pharmacies will be offering tests. Agree with MB’s assessment of pros and cons though...

You can watch the construction here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkADOB9qWWc Projects like this can go either way, either improve and add to the location or start on the path to overdevelopment. Those making decisions on St. Barths seem to understand that sensitivity to the environment is key to preserving what people love about the place. Let's face it: parking in that area was impossible, so hopefully this will either accommodate all the parking needed for guests and staff and maybe more. If the design called for below grade work then I would assume there was a building height limit. I've been going to St. Barths for less than 20 years so I'm sure that makes me something of a newbie. There have been a lot of changes since the early 2000s, so like someone else said,...

St Barths is our favorite Island. We come once-twice a year since 2009. We are very disappointed that Maya is Closed. We are looking forward to the reopening of the New Maya. I heard it may be Lebanese Cuisine. By the way, the highlight of the Trip was seeing Dora on the Beach !! We hugged and kissed. The Food on the Island has become better, more sophisticated. Covid 19 Protocols are observed quite nicely. Last year in November we did not feel safe on the Island ( and then all hell broke lose ) but this time, I think it has become the safest Island in the Caribbean. I know that some Moderators write about other Restaurants and we look forward to going to them , in the near future. And YES we do fulfill our dreams every year and come for more, each time !!

What Kevin said. Do the basic checking with your airline as changes do happen. Then when your feet are here on the ground, ENJOY.

Don’t overthink it. We have been down twice since May. The chances are so slim, not worth a second of my time. More likely to catch it at a family party crammed into a room on Thanksgiving than on a beach with no one within 25 feet of you.

When we were there last August we asked Wimco what would happen if we tested positive in regards to where we would stay. They told us we would stay in the villa. We asked what if someone else had reserved the villa. They told us that the other party would need to make other arrangements.

Given risk of occasional false positive antigen tests or alternatively a true positive this circumstance would present multiple challenges: 1) traveling companion(s) who would have to leave you behind or remain 2) cost of rebooking accommodation (assuming your could find a place with meals delivered) unless you had taken travel insurance with high trip delay coverage (example $7000 cap Travelwick International) 3) remaining in isolation room for 10 days (not a fun experience anywhere)
