Nick the dog wouldn't know what a reggae band was, even if it sat on him.

Agree that St Barts is not a "rocknroll" island. Appropriate music for appropriate places. Rock at Ti St Barth, piano bar at Francoise Plantation. Listen to the water at Mayas, Le Gaiac, etc. Reggae would be good at a beach bar at St Jean or Grand Cul de Sac (Boubous, La Rivage). We have enjoyed hearing Choir practice at the Angilican Church in Gustavia from La Mandala.

I was in St. Barth toward the end of June and there was a terrific music festival. It began in the afternoon with school kids, and progressed well into the following morning; ending at 3:00 a.m. There was a new live band every hour and we got to hear reggae, jump, zydeco, zouk and a couple of rock variants that to my knowledge have no label. It was a really good time with about 1000 people dancing in downtown Gustavia. From what I understand this is a yearly event.
We did hear some live music at La Plage, but for most of our time we were treated to many renditions of "It's Raining Men" at Le Ti.

I would have loved it Nick!!! I once was blessed with the truly mystical experience of seeing the great Bob Marley live. Bob in particular and Reggae in general have always been a part of my St. Barth experience. Unfortunately I usually have to hear it on tape. It is always a special treat when I run into a live Reggae show anywhere, even better if it's on SBH. Last year, we were lucky enough to catch a rare Reggae band playing in the courtyard of L'Iguane in Gustavia. My wife and kids enjoyed an evening of dancing. I have always though that live music, particularly live Reggae music, is the one thing that there has been too little of in my St. Barth experiences. Though a small island, I think the island is big enough for all types of music (live included) and plenty of quiet areas too. Ya Mon!!
