I guess that kills the prospects for Shell Beach villa. I hope the owner isn't reading this.

Maybe it would be a good thing if the owner does read this.

Loic is going to be pulling out his hair!!!!! We stayed at villa shell beach this past April.....saw no cockroaches(I would've told Loic). But, it has the usual mosquitos, that show up @ sunset. When we stayed at SIB CLO, in Columbier, they also had bad mosquitos at that time of day.....yes, you are in the tropics, and you just have to use some spray. Villa Shell Beach was a very private, perfect sunset villa....and easy to get to places from it's location. On the snow front.....wer'e getting nailed here, I've already been on my X-country skiis on the main roads....already got a foot, expecting more. I would try the car spins Petri, but my Audi TT, with its snows on, won't do it!!!!!!!!!!:)

It easier on RWD car.. one can do it even with studded winter tires so that's no limit. I was just reading the newspaper this morning and they wrote about the Bentley Ice Driving that's happening on some lake up in the north. Some locals are complaining about the noise.
"Taking to the wheel of a Bentley under normal conditions and understanding how the car handles on twisting country roads is exhilarating enough in itself. Understanding how it, and you, will react in the extreme conditions of snow and ice is another matter altogether.
Bentley have developed a series of unique driving experiences, tailor-made to take you and the car to the limit and safely back again; all whilst on the frozen lakes in the Finnish wilderness and all under the watchful eye of our professional instructors."
They have about 10 Bentley GT's and FlyingSpur's for the Bentley owners (or others willing to pay for the fun) to drive with. The instructor is a former rally driver world champion.

Insects and the tropics come hand in hand I'm afaid. I think most people who post on this site understand this. The feedback on your villa has been mostly if not entirely positive up to this recent post. I don't feel it is unresponsible that someone who paid to stay at your villa gave heartfelt feedback, positive(as is most of the time) or negative (as in this exception). We all count on this feedback to chose a villa for vacation in SBH.
I live in Florida. We need to spray once a month to keep the roaches away. The owner of the villa we will enjoy this summer in SBH sprays twice per month for mostiques- just an idea.

Loic, I'm not sure if you're referring to my post or some other but anyway.. I don't think VIlla Shell Beach has a bug problem nor did we find or experience anything that would make us not to stay at the villa again.
On 12th January evening when arriving from dinner, I saw a 6-7 cm thing(* on the kitchen counter and it quickly run away. During the night I woke up first followed by my girlfriend waking up waving her hands like a crazy, saying that something just run over him. Later she saw a similar 6-7 cm thing(* in the bathroom next to the bathtub, that also quickly run away.
The thing looked something like:
As I said, I don't know much about bugs but we thought it was a cockroach of somekind. Googling around I can also find cockroaches that look nothing like what we saw so it could well be some other kind of an animal, I don't know.
Over the week we also saw about half a dozen smaller creatures, about the size of a 20 euro cent coin, outside on the patio, a few times around the dishwasher and in the bathroom ceiling. They looked a bit similar but much smaller and antennas about the size of their body. They run quite fast and did small jumps. I don't know what they were.
We sprayed RAID around the bad and around the bathroom and slept very well for rest of the stay. Considering St. Barth is in the tropics and that we saw just a few, we assumed they are just part of the life and not worth mentioning.

We actually toured Villa Shell Beach with the lovely Rosita. It is a very attractive villa. The driveway is a little steep but nothing out of the ordinary for St Barths. I would get a four wheel drive in case it rains but you need a 4WD just to get up the hill by The Guse in the rain anyway so that is no biggy.
The villa itself is pretty cool, somewhat different than a lot of other villas. It was the family home and is built a little more like a home than some other villas. It is very attractively done, private and has a nice view of the water below it. There seems to be a lot of nice touches and personal attention to the place.
As to moustics or other critters, I didn't see a one while we were there. But we all know how the game goes: Spray for critters and most die. Just before you spray again, some have come back. As such, have the place sprayed before you get there and you should be fine. That advice can be copied and pasted to every villa on the island, BTW.
There is not a lot of construction in the area, ergo there should not be a lot of scallapods in the area.
For those of you who like to be near Gustavia and Gouverneur, this seems like a dandy little villa. The price is pleasing and it is a very cute little place. All in all, I can see why people like it.
