For those of you in the rest of the country, New England is in for a glorious Fall. The heavy rains have passed, there's a bumper crop of acorns and fat, sassy squirrels (good thing I'm a retired hunter or those same fat creatures would be bubbling in a Brunswick stew) and the leaf color is predicted to be fabulous. Already, even here in southern Connecticut, the first oaks are turning; things are further along up north. New England has it's drawbacks-March comes to mind-but right now, right here, it's the best place on earth.
And of course, if you hurry, you can join in the heartbreak of the Boston Red Sox. As I write, they're one run ahead of the goddamned Yankees but we know what will come of that. The certain knowledge that our beloved will, somehow, someway, find a way to lose, adds to the core of this place (crowd noise from the TV, so I'm signing off-hope springs eternal).

Mike, I forgot to mention that the striped bass are massing, swarming along the coast, getting fat for their migration south. Possibly the best possible reason to hit Martha's Vineyard right now.
C
ps. And my Red Sox did lose, naturally.
