Top ten reasons why Grand Salines is the best all-around beach on St Barts:
Spectacular natural beauty, with no visible development. Extraordinary color, clarity and cleanliness of water. Soft, clean sand that's cool no matter how hot the sun. No rocks underfoot, either on the beach or in the water. Great body-surfing, with gentle slope and long rides. Long enough for good walks. Uncrowded, but not empty. Clothing optional, beautiful people with all-over tans, no gawkers. No beach vendors. Good restaurants nearby for lunch.
Gouverneur is almost as good, but it doesn't offer body surfing (the slope of the beach is too steep), and restaurants are farther away. Columbier is almost as beautiful, but it has no surf, requires a 30-minute hike to reach, and isn't clothing optional. The erosion of St. Jean beach in the 1995 hurricane has left too little beach in the key section in front of Hotels Eden Rock, Emeraude Plage and Tom Beach, making the beach seem too developed, with hotels and restaurants intruding on its natural beauty. So the winner is . . . Grand Salines!

No, just up the steps a bit. I don't believe they were even open when I took this, the send week in November.

Is absolutely horrible, with razor sharp fire coral, sea urchins with foot long spines, killer conga eels with needle sharp teeth, lethal box jelly fish, short tempered great white sharks, spitting cobras and child eating spiders.
Putrid corpses are frequently washed up on the beach.
Don't go, stay away!!

Jim,
Trying to save Anse des Cayes for your own personal swimming hole are we? You forgot to add that everyone that goes there catches all recorded types of dengue fever. LOL!

The putrid corpses are due to either the octopus-faced pirates lurking just outside of the break line or due to the 4-foot long scalopoids (sp?) that prowl that rat-infested shoreline. These pirates and bugs do not frequent Anguilla, however.
