You've Been Upgraded new
      #82101 - 12/10/06 06:33 AM

What a pleasant message to receive from U.S.Air on an early Sunday morning a few days before a flight back to the U.S. of A. Whereas I'm too cheap to pay for First Class, I'm always grateful to be upgraded at no charge due to my being a very frequent flyer and having preferred status. U.S. Air has its critics, but on any given day, any airline can have a meltdown. Besides, in my part of the world, U.S.Air is the dominant carrier with the most convenient schedule by far. It doesn't take many messages like the above to make one a very devoted fan.

P.S. I'm sure other airlines have similar programs.

With all the $$$$$ you spend on USAIR they should give you your own plane. LOL

Wendi flys Conitnental every 4-6 weeks, DEN/MHT, and to trade shows, to the tune of 72 thousand miles a year.... and they are very good to her as well..its just smart business

I've (we've) been upgraded only once in our lifetime -- that was on a Air Mauritius 12-hour flight from Mauritius to Frankfurt, Germany. We had originally economy tickets that I upgraded to business class at the airport for very little money, that the airline upgraded to first class as it was otherwise empty. Rest of the cabin was upgraded models returning from a photoshoot. That's hard to beat for a travel.

On our upcoming trip we'll be having our share of AA's economy and domestic "first", including one odd flight on Southwest. Not sure if I need to mentally prep myself for the flights or the arrival to St. Maarten..

Not a whole lot beats frequent flyer perks...especially on the cattle cars (757's and A300/320's) AA runs on the JFK/SXM route. I've got my fingers crossed for our 12/28 departure (5 seats left upfront) and 1/11 return (8 remaining). I'm not travelling like I used to anymore (100K miles/yr and over 2 mil on AA) but I've kept the Platinum status so I'm ever hopeful of a similar email 72 hours before departure. It worked like a charm last year!!!

BTW, I called AA a few weeks ago to check on the price of our itinerary if I booked the identical flights at that time (we book early...once the reservation system opens the flights). Bottom line, it was almost $450 per ticket cheaper and AA refunded the difference. The refund just hit the AMEX card.

Tim,

I've been 13 consecutive years as a Gold Preferred on US Air and they have been good to me. At RIC, it's nice to know the faces of the US Air airport employees.

FYI...US Air is flying 767 widebodies into SJU for those considering Tradewinds. We got upgraded in both directions in Nov and there were still open seats in 1st class.

I haven't flown coach on AA for years. They bump me into 1st when I book. Helps to have nearly 3M miles with them :-)
