Thank you islander. You have provided a WEALTH of info to help travelers to SBH arriving later in the day make it! We are flying PHL-SXM and arriving at 3:00 PM. Since we are taking SBC, hopefully we will have enough time to make the connect (1 hour). There is still some time until our trip in February so maybe they will have "most" of the bugs worked out...

Is American or any other 757 carriers into SXM still deplaning from rear or is it better to take a seat up front now that jets are being used? I have always taken a rear seat to have more room and to deplane first

Why, because they'll be in for a much rougher ride? Explain yourself, don't leave us hanging!

thats pretty much it Bev...the Rapid EX represented the very latest in hull design and propulsion....whose results were unprecedented speed and comfort...the Voyager boats are old hull design and to me, look tired.....although the Voyager II at least is a catamaran and a much better deal to be on then the Voyager...however I have not seen the Voyager II in Gustavia in quite some time...I always see the Voyager....given the route of course between SXM and SBH, and given where the prevailing winds and seas come from down there...... seagoing passengers are almost always going to have to make the crossing in a sea which is perpendicular to the heading ( a beam or broadside sea )....and that aint good for those who dont like rockin and rollin in the briney
in a nut shell...think DC3 and Boeing 757

So what about these boats that are taking advantage of the RE being down....the one Tim took...what kind of ride will that be? I've done a lot of boating in my day but not in the open sea...sounds scary to me. Tim said it was fine but of course, the water was calm. I've often thought the RE ferry would be a good alternative but it doesn't look good for future, does it?

if its nice out bev....its a smooth ride in anything and everything...its when its rough out that the good and bad are seperated....the boat that Tim went over in I imagine was pretty small...like 40-50 feet maybe......I would say the RE is done for, but who knows???....for them to not sail Christmas week...where they would probably haul huge loads of people over and back....is a bit odd...and we are way beyond the "down for repairs" timeline here considering you can completely replace the entire propulsion system in half this time......so....time will tell whats really goin on

Exit Row.....tons of leg room......gettin off the plane first really doesnt hold that much of an advantage down there as you still have to get on a bus and the bus waits til it is chock a block full before it leaves
