For our trip in 2 weeks, we saved over $500 per ticket on US Airways going into SJU vs SXM. Combine that with the $250+ per ticket we would have spent on Winair and we come out ahead using Tradewinds ($700 per ticket round trip). Even better, we don't have to be part of the "Juliana Project".

ALFresco, When are you going? My wife and I leave two weeks from today. We've planned a get together at Baz on the 19th. at 6:30.That is if we aren't still stranded in SXM.

We do not arrive until 11/21. We are definitely up for a get-together between the 22nd and 28th.

Happy Birthday debo. I too am taking AA but out of PHL to SJU and on to SXM. I did that 3 years ago and enjoyed the extra legroom on AA. Has that changed???

Bad news Andy. AA got rid of the extra legroom as planes got full again and they had to compete on price. It's back to the way it was. Still a great airline to fly but no extra legroom.

Is it just me or does anybody else wonder why we have not heard from JimD on this SXM issue? Is it because he would be promoting himself? I would like to hear what someone in the service business has to say about the best way to handle this.

Jimmy,
I too would enjoy hearing further from JimD on this issue, but I know he's sensitive about self-promotion. They got fussed at in the past when they commented similarly on an issue of interest to many of us. Also, it's a fine line between being a nice, helpful guy and giving away free that for which he's hoping to be paid. As an aside, I'm sure Jim knows a lot more about what's happening at the new Juliana than do I, but I had a fairly long conversation with him before I wrote the "Arsonist" post, and some of what I wrote came from that conversation(I hope accurately).
I know it's difficult when you've done all the planning and are looking forward to a relaxing time in paradise to think that your trip over could become somewhat of a nightmare over which you have no control, but I believe that's the current situation with U.S.Air 877/Winair connections. Hiring Premium IV to help with the transfer might remove some of the uncertainty, but even they have no control over whether Winair decides to fly or not, and I think that's the crucial issue around which all others revolve.
JimD, feel free to chime in and correct any inaccuracies you might see in the above response.
