L'Essentiel today reports one more robbery of a Pointe Milou Villa this past weekend. And I was told by a local today that Radio SB says there was another last night. Possibly referring to the same one, don't know for sure.
I was also told by a local today that calls at night to the St. Barts Police are FORWARDED to the police station in St. Martin . . .

If true that would be incredible. 20 years ago in our town we had no local police on duty from midnight to 6:00 AM and calls to 911 were forwarded to the state police barracks 30 miles away. Incredible.

I can confirm that calls are forwarded to St. Martin. We called the police immediately after our break-in around 4am in the hopes they might come to PM and look for suspicious activity as well as help us feel a little safer (we were not sure whether the robbers had all left the property and it was still dark). The call went to ST. Martin and it was 2 + hours before we saw the police.

<<<A villa renter who wakes up to being violated, gets really pissed and in the heat of the moment and not thinking, confronts the thieves.... could make for a tragic situation. >>>
Well, for the thieves, I hope.

<<After all the attention this thread has received, there will certainly be a lot more butcher knives in bedrooms until the problem has been squelched>>
Butcher knives? What ever happened to the ol sock of sand?

St. Martin dispatcher had to wake them up in SBH, they had to shower, shave and dress, some coffee first and then they got around to visiting your villa. Incredible.

Well, along the same lines, and don't know if this is well-known or typical... My sister and I went to the hospital in Gustavia on Thursday at like 3pm to the main entrance/ "ER" and there was noone to be found. We were w/ a local/resident who obviously knew the protocol, and we were knocking on doors and there for a solid 5 minutes and it was a ghost town. No one ever showed up or came to assist.

That's pathetic. I retract any previous speculation about their getaway, now realizing they have all the time in the world to beat feet.
In all likelihood, they have realized this all along.
What previously was an adequate way of policing appears to need at least a temporary modification.

There have been two reported arrests in the last few days. One was the arrest of a 30-year old woman who has been charged in connection with the March burglary of a house in Gustavia.
The second arrest is of a man in connection with the more recent Pointe Milou robberies. Rumor has it that he is 'cooperating' with the Gendarmes, and that they now have additional leads to follow.
