Many thanks also to GayleR and Michael for their generous donation to this worthy cause. I also want to send a special shout out to Tim who really worked hard to facilitate and organize this effort.

Tim,Kevin,Kara, IV ,et al
This is a fabulous idea, and we will be e-mailing one of you with our pledge(hard to know who-you are all our friends --probably Kevin, as we will see him soon-2 days and counting !!)
Two other very worthwhile causes in SBH which we have been supporting , and, which,I am sure if you were to contact them ,would also be able to direct donations from your fund to good use ,are the Anglican church, and Marius's foundation. They both do wonderful things for our island. After building the fantastic community centre, the Church just this spring completed a very succesful campaign to raise US $200,000 ,and Marius's foundation continues to do great things ,at the school. ,etc, etc
Congrats on putting this together
Lloyd and Pat

What Will You Bid for IV???? new [Re: lloyd]
      #67549 - 06/02/06 06:10 AM

Mes amis, I found the following communication yesterday evening in my mailbox -

Tim:

As you know, I have retired from active posting on the web. After a few weeks of nothing but wine, women (or, make that woman) and song,I have come to some conclusions: Wine is good, women are better and song is overrated. So I have contemplated sobering up on occasion, coming back from retirement and joining the merry band of revellers in SBHOnline. I do, however, have conditions. More specifically, I have a price.

Seven thousand dollars. That's right.

If I come back from my rhumrunning over the next couple of weeks and this charity has received seven thousand dollars or more, then I shall return to active posting. If not, then I shall continue here in my rhum/wine/moonshine
stupor that suits me and those around me so well. Dean Wormer may have thought that fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, but I dont recall seeing HIM on Saline (thankfully).

Now, this is a golden opportunity for the many who have very much enjoyed this respite from me and my prosaic stylings these several weeks. All they have to do to continue this IV-Free website is to convince people to NOT give enough money to bring me back. It's that simple.

So there it is. Those who DON'T wont me to return need only convince their fellow posters to not send money to this charity. What could be easier?

Show me Da Money. Until then, sign me Fat, Drunk and Stupid - and STILL retired.

IV

We're within $1,000. of our goal. What say ye, mes amis?

I recall IV's posts, only vaguely because I was on the site so sporadically over past years, but I'd like to have him back to become further aquainted. Count me in for a donation, to be delivered in person to Tim on the 13th if I may.

Ashley,

Thank you to you and others who've pledged anonymously for your support and your pledges to this worthwhile cause.

We're getting closer to helping to modernize the equipment of the St. Barth Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Chief has told me they're now responding to over 300 calls per year, almost one per day. Most of their funding comes from the French government via Guadeloupe, but they never get enough to purchase all the equipment they need. The success of this campaign will make it easier for them to fulfill their role as St. Barth's lifesavers.

Jean,

That was definitely a good one, but the one I found most amazing was the one he wrote on appropriate dress for women visiting St. Barth, a topic I wouldn't dare touch on this forum.

Fred,

LOL! You know you want to join us in all this fun. Who knows? Heavan forbid, you might be the one dialing "18" on St. Barth in the middle of the night. :-)

Ashley,

Wow, finding one particular post out of hundreds from IV on the subject of women's clothing is quite a task, especially since he's the king of the sharks when it comes to changing topics. LOL! I regret that I couldn't put my finger on the exact one I remembered, but you can search under his name on the topic of "clothing" and find more discussion than you ever want on the topic. Here's one that I came across on for whom women dress -

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why would any woman want a man's view- not her husband or boyfriend- of what to wear anywhere or anytime?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because the customer is often right. A woman dresses for one of four people:

1. Her husband. For him, nekkid will be just fine.

2. For herself: In which case, she does not bother to ask anyone else's opinion.

3. Other women: In this case, go to Milan and get a designer to do you up right so you can show the other ladies who the Alpha Tourist Babe is.

4. Other men: Remarkably enough, many women consider it a compliment if other men notice how they look. I have a habit of telling our local lady friends when they look particularly nice. Everyone in town knows I do it as I usually do it in front of my wife and our friends' husbands. They light up like Christmas trees at a compliment. And the husbands are always proud that someone noticed their lovely wives.

Any woman can dress for anyone she chooses. But beware, if you happen to look particularly nice (and a smile goes a LONG way) I may compliment you for it.

Sorry, that's how I am.
