I need some killer information on things to do in Montreal over two days in early June.

I'll be with a group of 12, all related by blood or marriage, a sort of "The Griswolds take on Montreal" kind of thing. The hotel is all set, and dinner reservations are made. What cool stuff can I offer the troupe for things to do during the day? Please, people, make me look good with my in-laws!

Gretchen

What types of things do you and your family like to do? There are SO many things to do there, that a few days really isn't enough. On of my favourite things to do in Montreal is just walk around downtown and Old Montreal. It's got such a pulse to it. All kinds of cafes and things to do and see.

There is also Mont Royal....absolutely BREATHTAKING, and a great park to walk through.

The theatre district and nightlife is also great there. Hopes this helps you some.

Old Montréal is definitely a must.
A visit to the Biosphere would be worth it
I know you said restaurants are taken care of, but one of Canada's (not just Montréal's)best restaurants is "Toqué" in old Montréal
For good shopping try Ogilvies and Holt Renfrew
Take a walk on Crescent Street
The two world -famous smoked meat resto's are Ben's and Shwartz's(for lunch)
Whatever you do- you have to have "poutine"-it's the best known Quebec and Franco-Ontario "junk food"- you'll look like a local if you get it for a snack.
You are about 3 weeks too early for the opening of the CFL season- but the team is "Les Alouettes" and they are good (remember- 3 downs, 12 guys, 110 yard field etc, etc, but the scores are typically close , and very high-- just my little Canadian plug in honour of Doug Flutie )
Try this website- sweetspot.ca-montreal
Listen to lots of Leonard Cohen before you go
Enjoy

Lloyd,
I've never been to Montreal but, among artists, there is often talk of an area there where artists are allowed to display, and sell, in the streets. I hear it's a vibrant arts community and, worth a visit. Do you know anything about this?
BTW, Leonard Cohen is a good choice. You can also listen to Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Gordon Lightfoot. They all played coffee houses there, early in their careers.

Eddie
Those others are all good Cdn musicians, but with no real connection to Montréal.Joni Mitchell is from Saskatchewan, Neil Young from Winnipeg,Manitoba,,and Gordon Lightfoot from Toronto. But Leonard Cohen's work over a lifetime, is steeped in the chemistry and culture of his hometown ,Montréal.He recently returned for the funeral of our greatest poet,Irving Layton, also a Montréal icon
Of interest, one of our greatest singer- songwriters,Bruce Cockburn (hello, Jimmy Buffett-He's your favorite , too)lives in Montréal.
I can't remeber the name of the street where artists exhibit, but your question made me remember-The Musée d'Art Contemporain (museum of modern art), near Place des Arts, has a great resto , which is run by another old SBH hand- if you drop in, ask to see her, and use the SBH conection
BTW-Montréal is the second largest french-speaking city in the world, second only to Paris.
Come and see us up here (and Ottawa,Ont., too !!)-We're close, and different- however, this year, bring lots of money !!Our $ is "out of control" !!!
