Mes amis,
In two weeks we are leaving for Spring Break in Paris with our 9-year old daughter. We will be staying in an apartment in the Latin Quarter (5th). We plan to see all the main sights, but does anyone have any suggestions of sights, shops, or restaurants that might particularly appeal to a 9-year old? I already cut out from the Times the article that Erma recently posted, and I've printed out Lauren's post to Erma from a few months back that has tons of info about Paris. But, I'm hoping that you can provide me some inside scoop on something special that I might not find in a guidebook.
Merci! EricF

Be sure to take her to the Palace at Versialles. It is really spectacular and you can rent a boat and go out on the lake or rent bikes and tour the grounds. It is a pretty easy to get to via train and makes a great day trip. Bring a picnic along and don't miss the water show in the fountains outside. Get there early. Also, the catacombs (spelling?) might fascinate that age. A little spooky and fun tour under the streets of Paris with lots of bones.
Rick Steve's guide to Paris might have some good suggestions. We also used to have a book called "Paris for kids" I think that was the name. It is full of suggestions. Also, the Orsay is a pretty cool museum and a great size for a young person. It is located in a former train station. I prefer it over the Louvre. Not as overwelming and great Van Gogh, Degas (including the famous Ballerina statue) and other Impressionists which are truely beautiful. The Rodin Gardens ( in the Eiffel Tower area) are also nice with a young person. It is small and full of statues. The famous thinker is in the garden. It is also a good spot for a picnic with a beautiful pond. It is a museum that does not go on and on forever for a kid. Just some ideas... Have a great trip!!
