BTW: I understand the reason for this clause and actually agree with it. They dont want outsiders buying up large blocks of the island as land speculations, lot by lot, and then taking them off the market. And most of these islands have low land taxes (if any at all) but do make money on rental incomes. So the reason for The Dreaded Development Clause is a good one with which I agree.
I just wasn't ready to develop.

Now, if Nevis or Anguilla would give me an exemption and maybe let me pay a land tax instead...

I am not a detractor of AXA either. It doesn't bother me in the least. I was trying to explain the large dichotomy between the haves and the nots. Maybe I got a little taken away and should spend time with some of the islanders like some suggested. AXA here I come under an assumed name.

There is an inherent danger in taking any thread out of context. And given the number of posts you and I have in this site, andynap, a curious visitor to this site could probably find much with which to disagree. LOL.
On the other hand, your record is one of liking several island other than St Barts - you being a visitor to Anguilla and this site's champion of St Martin.
I sing the praises of St Croix and look to other islands for future visits. Clearly AXA will be on that list, an occasional thread to the contrary notwithstanding. And if anything, I am accused of being "polyanna" in this site when it comes to locals developing their own islands. So I am certainly not unfriendly to the thought of locals making money on tourism and development. It seems a natural to me.
As such, I am glad that we have provided a higher hit count for another website because more hits equals more money for the webmaster often-times. But if that one thread (of many we have been involved with) is taken as a blanket condemnation of AXA, then such is unfortunate. And inaccurate.
I too shall visit AXA in the fairly near future (actually already have some plans). Obviously, I shall be travelling incognito as it stands. LOL.
Oh well, onward and upward.

Heads up to parents...There are huge billboards on the island suggesting condom use for safe sex. They are impossible to ignore anywhere you drive...we had to have one of "those" conversations with our then 5 and 7 year old. Not sure if the billboards are still up?.... HIV situation fairly fluid in AXA from what we understand. Not sure if this has arisen due to IV drug use or ...

On the radio in Anguilla they were playing a rather catchy reggaeaton/calypso/r&b/I/dont/know/which/flavour tune with the lyrics "I want to have sex, I don't want have std". I wonder if the song is available on-line somewhere, it was pretty good. Not to mention that the text had a good message.
They also had the best christmas songs ever, not the typical funeral tunes from the western world.

Well, if you can get it from drinking newly uncorked wine, then I am a goner. Other than that, I am pretty safe.

OK, so all we need to do is figure out how to get a few shotguns on the island, and hook up with a car rental firm. "Renting a villa? would you like a Browning with your Samurai, sir?" Put a box of shells on the "villa provisioning menu" from Wimco, and you're good to go. Home invasion? BLAM. (then call the maid....)
