I see that there are a number of villas in vitet such as Poiriers, Everest, Alta Vista, etc. Which one offers the most privacy? Why is Poiriers so cheap? (I can believe it is almost half the price of the others just because it has one bathroom.) Do the villas face the same direction? Is construction noise still an issue? Thanks, Rob

Since no one has answered...Vitet is a lovely, serene area. I think Vitet is quiet and more neighborhood-y (if there's such a word), more local. There are some who prefer not to be in Vitet, or anywhere past Camaruche for that matter as they perceive it to "be far", though I am not sure how anything can be far on an 8-square mile island.
I haven't seen any of the villas you mentioned but much has been written on all of them if you do a search. I can recall detailed descriptions and discussions of privacy about at least Poiriers and Everest. Poiriers is apparently quite private, but the owner lives next door. It's at the bottom of Vitet and has been described as very basic, hence the price and likely the view reflects that too, though most villas in Vitet face south/east towards Grand Cul de Sac. Tim can correct me if I'm wrong on that point. As for construction, we stayed in Vitet in December and there wasn't any construction around us, just the barking dogs from the humane society (sic).

Because there is very noisy construction going on a few feet from the villa that went from sun up to sun down when we were there. We feel that the agency we used to rent it was not truthful regarding this as there has been constuction going on for quite some time and has been metioned on this forum as a potential problem. I asked about construction noise prior to renting I was told there was none. This is especially annoying if the owner does live next door as they would know about the noise.

rob...we stayed in a villa in Vitet that had an incredible location...I believe it was below Everest and Diaco, which are high up on the hill...this was in August 2004...there was one villa under construction down the hill...they started well after we were up and were gone when we returned...only the sound of goats, roosters and the occasional car going up to the villas behind us...the view took in the beach at Lorient, Pointe Milou and the Cul de Sacs...incredible...the villa itself was very private, with the pool being on the inside of the courtyard...with a sun deck built up behind it...very cool...an inexpensive villa...simple but so enjoyable because of where we were....the bed was the worst part... lumpy! SB Properties no longer handles it..you must go through the owner...I will stay in Vitet again, once I've made my way around all parts of the island....bev

Six of us stayed at Alta Vista in October, 2005. Great in every respect. The view and pool are wonderful. The common areas get a bit hot as it is not air conditioned. However, the bedrooms are like meat lockers in the temperature department! Plus, the kitchen is spartan - dishwasher is the only thing we really missed.
I would recommend it very highly.

Took us 3 trips before we were told that the maid does the dishes!!! What idiots we were :-) Just have to clean them up enough to keep the critters out of them until she gets there.

And, if your are going to leave your house wide open all night long, dont leave all your breads and stuff on the counter unless you want a midnight visit from Monsieur Le Chat.

Thanks to all for the help. Since we have stayed at villas at Flamands and Anse De Cayes (sp), I think the other side of the island and seclusion on a hilltop sounds just right for romance and gazing into her eyes...
