Remember, if it's too loud, you're too OLD...
Hey, guests at the beach house are invited to plug in their Ipods, etc and share thruout the weekend...usually some interesting stuff to get me out of my blues/R&B/R&R rut....

No question. Expose the kids to The Classics (LOL) and then they are more rounded.

Jugghead- Check out www.johnstonereggae.com for another good DC band. The drummer is a friend from his days in The Downbeat Rulers. I actually like them a bit more than SOJA, probably because of the personal connection, though. I'm old-school when it comes to reggae. No dancehall for me. I like the guys who can sing. They were influenced by soul (Otis, Sam Cooke, etc.) which they could here in Jamaica, from AM stations in the southern US. Try Dennis Brown and Freddie McGregor, too.

<<<but I'm damn happy I was the type of parent who was able to go to a Porno for Pyros concert and enjoy it as much as my daughter did>>>
Hey, we took #1 daughter to a Springsteen concert in the NJ Meadowlands/ Giant Stadium...at 26...talk about a hometown crowd. Also the first time parents and kid had shared, uh, a controlled substance...pretty funny.

If we make that as a blanket statement about all their music, then perhaps we have become our parents. But if we call the crap "crap", we are safe.
Of course we could always be like the white cop on Sanford And Son, knowing nothing but trying so hard not to offend that we make a fool of ourselves trying to be hip.
Kid: Dad, what do you think about this song?
Old Fart: He's thrashing. Really gnarly dude. Word?
Kid: Actually, I hate these guys. They suck.
You have a brain, folks. Use it.

Thanks Eddie I will. I don't go for the Dancehall stuff either, but Damian Marley's new album has a couple good tunes.
Dennis Brown's 'Man Next Door' is on of my absolute all time favorite songs.

Sorry nycfjc, but nowadays it's the other way around... My kid and her friends gets in the car with me. I turn the key. And the kids go "TURN THAT MUSIC DOWN" Yeah, I'm an old fart. And I like it loud :)
MikeR, I didn't take it personally, just took the opportunity to clarify my point for all the readers out there

Nobody has mentioned the Isleys. They give you everything from This Old Heart Of Mine to the angry Fight The Power, one of the first songs with a BLEEPED word on the radio.
