I bring my Powerbook, where my itunes has about 1300 songs. On the island, I tend to listen to a lot of reggae: marley, gregory isaacs, garland jeffreys, justin hinds. Old school, groove reggae. BTW, if you like "old-school" reggae, check out Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt's version of Pete Seeger's "Kisses Sweeter than Wine"- it's fantastic.
Folk: dylan, eric andersen, buffalo springfield, byrds, joni mitchell, hot tuna, karla bonoff, neil young.
Blues: david johanson and the harry smiths, lightnin' hopkins, sonny and brownie.
Other: must have some otis redding, sam cooke, jefferson airplane, replacements, fleshtones, robbie robertson, the band, renaissance w/ annie haslam (my favorite female voice ever) and the clash (the only band that matters).
The nice thing about a powerbook, or ipod, is how much more music you can bring. Monster cable makes a nice headphone jack to rca stereo splitter. It sounded better than some of the cheaper one's I tried. I just hook it up to the stereo or stereo TV in the villa.

I should (granted it will be a few years) suggest a ski trip out west so we can see my brother and his wife, see G Love and then hhmmm. Oh, go skiing.

You can't convince me that I'm that old, but...

Don't forget paper tape. My first programs were punched into paper tape, not magnetic tape. That was, I think, on the old Dartmouth Timesharing System. My first mainframe was an IBM 370, a 370/168 if I remember correctly. The disk drives were 3330's, but I don't remember the model. They held, what, 200MB? My USB drive holds more than that. We just stuffed an extra 3 terabytes into a 2105 Shark, which has about the same footprint as a pair of 3330 drives. Probably uses less power too.

Ah well, it's a living...

I don't make seperate playlists for the island. My trusty iPod travels everywhere and has every CD that I own on it. When I became space-challenged on the iPod I looked at what I had there, decided that some of it was crap, and not only deleted the music but threw out the CDs. If it ain't worth transferring to the iPod then what am I keeping it for? The crap is gone now, so unless I buy new crap then the next time that I'm space-challenged I'll have to bite the bullet and buy a bigger iPod.

Get a 60GB new [Re: KevinS]
      #51134 - 01/13/06 04:49 AM

Kevin,
You need a bigger iPod. I have the 60G and have 7000 tracks and just loaded all of Belushi's SNL videos. The video is surprising good on the little screen. Great for flights.

The danger of ITunes is that you find out how schizo you really are. My collection runs the gamut from Bubblegum to Heavy Metal to Old School Rap to Classical. Sprinkle in some Country, Electronic, Reggae, Glamrock, Jazz, Zouk, Soca, French, Opera and New Age and you have a rather eclectic mix.
