Joan and I would like to bring back some Rhum Vanilla when we return from our visit next week. What are some of your suggestions as to a top brand we should look for?

I look forward to our trip in June for many reasons- one of which is the vanilla rhum served after most meals- and vanilla rhum and banana rhum made by Ma Doudou, whose label is on the back of the bottle. You can find it at Match (always our first stop once off the plane). It is in your standard booze bottle except for a beautiful hand-painted sailboat and palm tree covering the bottle and a fabric bow tied around the neck of the bottle (each bottle is painted differently). This sounds a bit cheesy but it rivals that served in the restaurants and is worth the effort. I think is costs 8-10 euros per bottle. I will bring back several bottles this year!

i agree and have a bottle left next to this computer. Be sure you sample all the flavors before you buy. At least sample 5 or 6 to be sure. you might just want to buy one of each. My last bottle is "punch Srub" which tasted very interesting last Winter. I am wondering just what it might tast like on the 4th of july though

I also vote for M'Bolo. It is a bit more expensive than at Match but they make it themselves and have all the variations. They have a website and I think you can order it. (We still have a supply so haven't needed to).

Note that many of the restaurants that serve Vanilla Rhum bottle their own. We bought a bottle from Pipiri Palace last trip and serve it on special occasions to remind us of our trips to St. Barts.

I vote for Pipiri Palace Vanilla. The ginger was also very good. Unbelievable that I checked in this evening...we were listening to blues during dinner and my husband handed me a shot glass of vanilla rhum when I was clearing the table. Still as good as it was when we were there in January. Thinking of trying to send them a new blues CD in exchange for another bottle!!!

I agree with a couple of other posts in highly recommending M'Bolo. The products are all natural, and the store's a treasure trove of interesting gifts for you and friends/family back home. Definitely worth a visit!
