What are the most busy days to fly around christmas in the US?
We have been at Miami 24/25th December and that was a very unpleasant experience. Does it get any quieter on the 26th and onwards? Is there a busy day when every is flying back home?
Are there busy days around New Year? Or is it just Thanksgiving and christmas?
On our next trip we seem to have no option but to fly through MIA and I would like to try to make it happen on a quiet day.

Dec 22/23 are the busiest days and then Jan 2/3...but that largely depends on how Christmas falls in the week...growing up, my dad worked for TWA and my grandfather for AA and those were the days we never saw them as they did double shifts usually.....I dont think much has changed

Yes, we flew on 23th December last year. Sigh. The MIA airport was a zoo and we were suprised to see our luggage at SXM.
Considering that people usually fly somewhere and they need to return one day, is there a similar return day as well? Is e.g. 26th a busy day?
I remember reading from some Flyer forum that for thanksgiving there are two very busy days, when people fly out and when they return..

people seem to all get to a resort in one blast on the 22nd and the 23rd....but then they seem to return in waves...some right before New Years and some right after..depending on if they have kids in school, among other reasons.....I think the 22nd and 23rd are the busiest of all the Christmas dates.....we are flying back east for the first time in 5 years this Christmas season and are getting out of here on the 19th and returning on the 29th.....and there are still seats open on both flights....so those dates are looking good for us....we hope

Thanks, that's good to know.
Back to the drawing board with the flights, though. I had the flights planned last night and e-mailed them to the travel agency for a total quote. BA has changed the flights and their availability this morning and none of the information I gathered last night applies, sigh. I want to get this finalized tomorrow..
