Trying to find a place for spring break '06...for family vacation...Any great places you've tried?

Thanks, Bev

Have they recovered from last year? As I recall, one of the storms split sanibel in half.

Bev,
We stay at the Sundial Beach resort. My wife's parents have owned a place there for quite some time.
The Sundial has a great beach bar(it's a popular gathering spot for all the parents) and quite a few organized activities for younger kids. It always seems to be pretty popular with families no matter what time of year we go. I'm not sure what age group your kids fall into, but they shouldn't have a problem with finding friends if that is what they like to do.
There are plenty of nice family-friendly restaurants and it's a great place to ride your bike as there are bike paths everywhere.
We spent this past Spring Break there(and also a week in July) and will be going back this Spring Break of '06. There was still some work going on in July from last August's hurricanes, but everything should be 100% by next April for sure.
We've spent a lot of time there over the years, so if you have any specific questions feel free to ask.
Eric

Bto, We stayed at the South Seas Resort villa last time, 3 years ago, but my family tells me the entire complex was pretty much totalled by the storm. They are still rebuilding, and it is pretty barren now, but you should check, they may be open by 06. We are going down the 2nd week in November, and are staying at the Sanibel Harbour Resort right before the bridge. Even They are rebuilding some condos that were destroyed. I'll scope it out and report back.Another option is www.beachhouse.com, which has some nice private homes on both Captiva and Sanibel.
Good Luck

Thanks, sbdreamin...our relatives rave about South Seas but I knew it wasn't ready yet...If we're going for spring break I really must book it soon or I'll never get around to it like the past few years! I'll keep checking..

Bev, South Seas is great, and great for kids!Call them and keep checking because you are far enough out that they may be ready by then.Don't know the ages of your kids, but they have a great property and alot of things to do. I hope you are able to enjoy it.

We have gone to Captiva for the last 5 years on spring break with our children and our children's friends families. One year we had 54 of us from Wildwood,MO! We didn't go last year because of Charlie. Actually the hurricane split North Captiva island not Sanibel. It was all affected though. Captiva is a great place. We have been to Sanibel many times also but prefer Captiva. It really has and island feeling. We have always rented a home and loved it. If you have any ?'s send me a pm.

I used to run an excursion boat in Fort Myers and one of the trips we did was to pick up people at South Seas Plantation and haul them over to Cabbage Key for the day...it was a very cool trip....is someone still doing that?

I don't know, Mike, but someone should. I will be on the lookout for such a trip...I'm sure anything we do will have to involve fishing equipment though...and by the way, is there any place you haven't "run a boat"??
