which villas do you guys recommend as the best budget 2 bedroom villas( or even 3+ bedroom villas, rented as 2 bedroom villa). My wife and I are planning a trip with another couple. They are interested in St. Martin but I am trying to convince them to go to St. Barths. cost of accomodations is the issue. Any recommendations?
thanks!

Overall, go in the summer, off season. However, if you are going with another couple that wants to go to ST Martin and also are concerned regarding high prices, I do not know if you would enjoy going with them to ST Barths. It is expensive and pretty much designed so that it is expensive to be on the island, which does filter somewhat the budget seekers. However, there are cheap hotels in Gustavia that are more than adequate. Not my idea of my great vacation, but if you dont care, it is fine.

Mark,
It would help if you gave an estimated budget for the week's rental...everyone's idea of budget is different.
Where were they considering staying on St. Martin?
Can we assume the trip will be after April 15th? Have you visited both of the main agencies websites? If a villa did not have "equal" bedrooms would that be okay (maybe you would pay a little more than the half for the master, could make their decision a little easier?). Are you dead set on a villa vs. cottages/etc? Location preference on the island?
Best regards, Erma

The trip would be in july. We are looking to stay for about $2300 and below. I am not looking for a 7 night stay just a 5 night stay. This would be my 2nd time to St. Barts. (loved it the first time, this is why we are trying to convince our friends) :) restuarant costs and everything else will not be a problem. If I can find a nice buget villa, I think i amy be able to sway them. :)

Mark72,
Here is a quick list which shows villa costs;
http://www.stbarth.com/pricelist.pdf or http://www.wimco.com/villas/villasearch.aspx?did=487 (which you put input price range, location & villa size)
Most of the other agencies will also have lists of villas available (icietlavillas.com; frenchcaribbean.com) with applicable pricing.
As you will see, there are an incredible variety of villas available on SBH. I would suggest going through the list(s), select the villas in your price & size range as well as specific location (if that matters). Look at each villa that meets your criterion then begin to eliminate. I would then check this site for any references to your selected villa(s)&/or post an inquiry on a villa your are interested in.
Erma has brought this up in the past, relative to location, check with the rental agency or look at recent trip reports (or post a question) to determine if there has been any recent construction near the villa you plan to stay. It can be frustrating to hear all those construction sounds for the time you are at SBH - make sure you ask.
Good luck in your search.

Even though this is one of the cheaper ones I found (budget can go higher), this may do it. Anyone have expierences with this villa? I like the location of St. Jean.

My wife and I stayed there the last two years. Our only complaint was that the main bedroom mattress needed replacing but otherwise we liked the villa and the location (very central). Comes with a jeep in low season. It is very private with great views. It is also a very open villa on the second floor. We have never seen the ground level floor. You do get a great view of the airport take offs and landings. You may want to ask about the mattress. We had to lay down the chair mats on it to make it bearable to sleep.

Mark, If you haven't yet made your decision, I might suggest Villa Bougainvilliers, which is in Marigot and rented by French Caribbean.com (aka Ici et La in St. Barth) My husband and I rented it as a 1BR in Jan. but the other bedroom was perfectly lovely and we would not hesitate to share it with another couple. It was a beautiful house, extremely private, with a nice pool and patio and a fabulous view over Marigot Bay. I think the price for a 2BR off season of $2420 may fit your budget, given that it includes the rental fees. It's from a smaller agency but their service was wonderful.
