Some free advice on Maui... new
      #3122 - 02/15/03 11:25 AM

If you're planning on visiting Maui, I highly recommend spending a few days in Hana. We stayed at the Hotel Hana-Maui in a Sea Ranch Cottage and I'll remember it for the rest of my life. It's a nice contrast to the other side of the island and the drive there through the Rain Forest is breathtaking.

The Hotel Hana-Maui has a spot in my "Vacations" bookmark folder, right next to FranÁois Plantation and VSJ, so that I can go back and visit on days like these when the temperature is expected to drop to 5∞F.

Thanks for sharing -- this was exactly the sort of information I hoped would be exchanged on this forum (and it is quite timely as my parents are in the midst of planning a trip to Maui).

Mr Ed..How recently where you there? I'm assuming since the new ownership. My husband and I haven't been to Hana-Maui in 15 years, when it was lovely before it wasn't lovely. Your timing is perfect as we were thinking of going to Maui 3 days before meeting our kids for our annual Kauai vacation. Can you give me an idea of which catagory Sea Ranch villa to book?
Getting away from the Caribbean (living in California it's not as easy a trip), let me extole the virtues of Kauai!! I was born in the Bahamas and travelled extensively in the Caribbean and thought Hawaii would be less interesting. I was so wrong. It's a difficult flight from the east coast (although time is with you) but well worth the effort. Completely different in feeling from a place like St. Barths but so beautiful I defy anyone not to fall in love with the land and the people. I am not particularly fond of the large resorts on Kauai and I prefer the Poipu side of the island (sunnier) so we rent the same beachfront condo year to year and meet the same people year to year. I'm happy to answer any questions.

My wife and I just got back from Maui. Hawaii is an easy shot for us West Coasters. Direct flights right in to Maui
on Hawaiian Air. We used to go a couple times per year, but this was our first trip in about 5 years. Started going
to the Carribbean and liked it so much, we stoped going to Hawaii. Hawaii is beautiful and breathtaking. So green
and lush. Spent several days visiting and enjoying the various beaches on the Island. Much differnet then the French
West Indies. Culturally it is very americanized and very conservative. What we like about St. Barts and the other
French islands is their European atmosphere and attitudes. (And we don't have to wear clothes on the beach if we
don't want is a plus also.) We try to describe the allure St. Barts to our northwest friend but I don't think they quite
get it. Thats ok- We do. But try Hawaii. Its as beautiful a place as I have ever seen.
