Hi, has anyone been to this island, how big is it, how are the beaches, towns, etc? I was looking at a fairly new resort that looked enticing....the Capest Resort(its a relais-chateau resort).....kinda looked like a cross between nikki beach, and Do Brazil!!!!! Thanks for any info, linda

I have checked that one out on the web. Looks way cool. Also it is not too far from St Anne and Diamont which apparently are two of the better beaches.

Go see the ghost town (former capital of martinique) of St Pierre which was buried by a soufriere decades ago.

Lotsa rain forests and hiking but beware that Martinique is one of two islands (St Lucia is the other) that has the fer de lance, a nasty and deadly snake.

Hi, Linda,

I've only been to Martinique on a day trip from a cruise, long ago, so I can't vouch for much other than it's beauty...we took a ride through the rainforest which was beautiful and had lunch in a charming place...it's much bigger, like 400 sq. miles and French, of course...at the time I remember how lush it was and it seemed that not as many people spoke English...have you tried martinique.org?

Bev

Martinique is the Isle Of Flowers and is verdant, hilly and much bigger than St Barts. It features both white sand beaches and darker volcanic sand beaches. It is entirely french with a bit of the caribbean/creole spice thrown into the mix.

I desperately want to get there someday if St Barts will ever release her grip upon my soul.

I aint holding my breath on that one...

Martinique is a fabulous island! I cannot really compare it to St Barths as it is different, but it is French. It is so large, even has McDonalds! (which I really don't like to see on any island) There is lots of shopping in Fort de France and has lots of sightseeing! There is a great fruit and vegetable market. The houses in Fort de France are lovely built on the hillside overlooking the water, very European looking. It has some fantastic beaches as well. Wonderful architecure the Schoelcher Library and the Saint Louis Cathedral. Fabulous food and even a rainforest. This place has some of everything!

I thought in town was kind of seedy...but the rest of the island was nice....I still think St Lucia is second best to St Barts
