The Ever Expanding Anguilla
      #35505 - 06/01/05 06:59 PM

Boy the Caribbean certainly has seen a large amount of growth. Turks is out of control with building and now Anguilla is slowly creeping behind. The Anguillian Newspaper is reporting the island's largest development will most likely be build at Junks Hole which would include a Nicklaus golf course, 77 luxury homes, 120 condos, 140 townhouses & patio homes and a 5 star luxury hotel with 210 rooms. The construction would add a total of 2083 rooms to the island, doubling the entire room capacity. I guess the government wants the project build over 15 years and the development company wants to do it over 10 years. This is sad news, as it means the island is going to have to import new labor from to work on these grounds. Anguilla must be careful as things like this lead to an increase in crime and such.

What cracked me up was at the end of the show, an advertisement for the CD...so the whole thing seemed like a set-up to sell more product...God Bless'em. We recently went HDTV so to see the Eagles "wrinkles and all" was great. And the best mantra to live by: “…lighten up while you still can, don’t even try to understand…just find a place to make your stand, and take it eeeeeeasy…”

Oh why not? You have probably driven Life In The Fast Lane before.

Me? I am the Don Henly video "Boys Of Summer" tooling up and down the boulevard after all the tourists have left.

Music. C'est bon, n'est pas mes amis?

getting back on topic...just what this island needs,,2 golf courses...for those of you,who have never been to junks hole, you are missing one pristine stretch of beach, with a nice cocconut grove...it makes me sick the direction axa is going...they made the runway bigger,to accept eagle 72 seaters, and its just a matter of time, before its enlarged again to make wy for the jumbos...i wish my friend emile gumbs was still in charge, because in no way, would he let this happen..you all complain about sbh,but does sbh have 2 golf courses and a subway? with a kfc on the way? in the last 5 years or so,this jewel,is going the wrong way...crime is up,construction is booming, and the backwater island feel is long gone...im glad i got to play their, before it went down the tubes,so to speak...too much too soon...very sad

Anguilla could become the next St. Martin? That what residents are worried about. The increased runway, increased number of hotel rooms is causing the island to bring those from outside. Meanwhile, schools are in bad need of repair and crime is on the rise. A couple vacationing was recently robbed at gunpoint walking back to their place from Blanchard's. Police arrested a couple suspects but will be released because the tourist packed up and left the island. And since they did not provide a statement in court, the criminals will likely be put back on the streets. No place is safe but it is sad to see Anguilla change before our eyes.
