Today's St Maarten Daily Herald reports that there is a deal in place to redevelop Dawn Beach, which was "Luis'ed" in '95. See Dawn Beach Story for details. Anyone care to speculate on this project being completed on as timely a basis as the SBH Airport project?

I was in Oyster Bay next door to Dawn Beach in February and there was a definite buzz about the upcoming resort. If it is a Westin or Marriott it will be done on time. My only question was where are they going to put the people on the beach. Dawn Beach is being used by Oyster Bay condos, and several other condos facing the water. The beach is not that big. The cottages that were part of Dawn Beach before 1995 were so poorly constructed that when Luis hit there was absolutely nothing left- not a stick.

I worked for Marriott for 6 years, that would be my guess as they are building a lot more down there...

Dawn Beach, brings back memories of our first trip to St. Martin. We stayed at Dawn Beach, right on the beach in one of the little rooms in the sand. Of course, since this was our first trip to the caribbean, we were in heaven. I still remember reaching the top of the hill in the mini-van and seeing Dawn Beach before us. Compared to the rest of the island, I always felt it was more charming and quiet. It was beautiful, and was sorry to hear that it had all been destroyed.
