The Travel Channel had a 2005 beach special last night. Anguilla was ranked #1 as the best overall beach destination. Other Caribbean isles mentioned were Bermuda @ #2, Aruba #4 and Harbour Island was #7 or so I think. No mention of St. Barts or Turks and Caicos.
Anguilla sure is getting a blast from the media lately. Many articles in the papers (NY Times) and magazine Bon Apetite.

Beaches in Anguilla were very nice, but do not compare to Saline! Interesting that Anguilla is on the list with Aruba, (nice beaches?) Bermuda,(?). Even though Anguilla's beaches are nice, I would think they would rate on a list with St. Barts, not the other islands, which dont' even hold a candle to Anguilla. Sounds like Anquilla will be the next island to become a "tourist mecca" which is sad. When we were there 5 years ago, we arrived on Sunday, and had no villa provisions, a of course, stores were closed. Taxi driver said "no problem" and took us over to his friends grocery, which was closed. He got his friend at his house next door, who opened the store for us so we could get milk etc. Anguilla is a charming island, but does not have the flair of St. Barts.

its all cyclical with these travel writers......they go round and round from place to place spewing their inaccuracies, hyperboly and even lies....Anguilla does however deserve to be rated as having great beaches.....because they truly are.....I dont think St Barts strengths lie in her beaches..St Barts beaches are beautiful...no doubt about that... but personally,I've seen and been on plenty of beaches that are as good or, even better ( GASP! ) then Saline and Goveneur..... the food, the people, and the overall ambience are what sets St Barts apart from the rest of the pack....for now

When we went over in February, we went to Shoal Bay East- an unbelievable beach that has been rated one of the top 5 in the world by many. I posted a photo on the Photo Gallery- Everything Else.

I would definetly rank Anguilla at the top for the beaches. SBH is far beyond on the list, I don't think SBH as a beach destination, it's more about the french culture, the hills and the overall beauty.
Over the years we've been building "our default itienary" and right now it includes a week in SBH for the life and a week in Anguilla for the beaches.
In Anguilla; forget Shoal bay, it's long and very beatiful but also plenty of tourists and ordinary "touristic" life. Head to the West End. Cove Bay is short but very nice. Rendezvous Bay is our favourite, long enough and the occasional charters from St. Marten don't harm as they'll stay in a group. Meads Bay is a must for sunset walk. If the weather is nice and less windy, Meads Bay is very good during the day as well.
We rank Nevis pretty high as well, it's the only place where you can really have a beach for yourself but we have a problem with the bugs and other small animals due the rainforest..

Rendezvous Bay is a wonderful destination. The people at the Hotel of the same name are extremely nice and accommodating. While the rooms are rather sparcely and simply furnished the villas along the beach are very nice and to wake up right on such a beautiful bay is fabulous. I think that it is almost 2 miles long so a great beach for walking or running or strolling or basking or....... We were there for Bankie Banks big raggae party(Moon Splash) one year and the crawl home seemed longer than 2 miles but we made it. narrowly made it.
