We made it to NYC yesterday to catch the final day of The Gates in Central Park. It was fantastic. I have never seen that many people strolling around Central Park (and it was a chilly Feb. day). As others mentioned, the energy and enthusiam was terrific. I don't feel that I am one to define "art" but anything that gets that many people interested in it, talking about it, enjoying it and being part of it is certainly a major success. I also think it is amazing that the entire project was financed entirely by Christo and Jean-Claude. We took a few pictures for those who are interested - The Gates
On a culinary note -- a great brunch at Balthazar. Mobbed as always - they made Ben Stiller and wife wait almost 1/2 hour for a table. The oyster marys and egg meurette (available only at brunch on Sundays) may be my all time favorite combination.
Overall -- a wonderful Sunday afternoon.

You know that, after they do the river in colorado, they want to wrap SBH, right? sorta like the greek island they did a while back.....I think black linen, tho.

Thanks Kara, very nice pics, ..I tried taking some pitures, but by the time we got to the Park, it was almost midnight. My pictures don't capture the artistic (?) appeal.

Great pictures, Kara!
We just got back from a long weekend in NYC; business and pleasure, and stayed on the 14th and 18th floors of the Ritz Carlton, right across from the Park. It was just as you say, and it was great to get back to my hometown when so much was going on. There were tons of people on our corner. There were lots of celebs at our hotel (half of which I didn't recognize, but my husband did), and before the Lakers came in for their game, the management graciously had the limo for the Lakers take us to our business dinner! It was fun. Too bad nobody saw us get out of it!
We had a superb dinner at Daniel's, enhanced by one of the sbhonliners who has serious food connections, so we have to indirectly thank you, too, for that, as I've made quite a few new friends from this site. There were many happy hours spent shopping and dining, in spite of the fact that I was really sick the whole time. By the way, the doctor to whom the Ritz sent me for antibiotics is a well-known specialist in the treatment of travel-related illnesses, so if anyone in NYC needs a good travel clinic, call up Dr. Primas at 76th and 5th Ave.; he works with the U.N. alot. Great guy if you are going someplace exotic, as well as a very nice guy.
So thanks again, Kara. As soon as I get a digital camera I will try to post pictures. Until then, I'm still a Luddite!
