What do you like? Where have you been and did you like it? There's a ton of great choices in that area.

Jeff

Depending on what type of food you want to try, here are some located near the river:

Frontera Grill
Naha
Keefers (great for steaks)

Further out in the West Loop area, try these:
avec (great med cusine, lots of wine by the glass; cool, trendy atmosphere)
Sushi Wabi
de cero (upscale taqueria)

Hope that helps. Its just a start!

Try Gibson's or Keefers for a steak.

For Italian, off of Michigan Ave., do Coco Pazzo. On or near Michigan Avenue, Spiaggia is the best, but pricey. For lunch, try its cafe, Cafe Spiaggia.

Fine dining - TRU.

Casual Italian - Osteria Via Stato (at State and Ontario) serves prix fixe Italian with antipasti, pastas, entrees, and lots of little extras. Incredible 400-bottle all Italian wine list, with LOTS available by the third-bottle.

Mexican - Frontera (casual) and Topoolobampo (fine dining), both on Clark between Illinois and Hubbard. Temples of Mexican dining from Beard Award-winner Rick Bayless.

Good lunch - RL at the Ralph Lauren store at Chicago and Michigan. Cool, clubby atmosphere.

The best vegetarian you'll ever eat: Green Zebra on W. Chicago Ave. Fine dining, 90% vegetarian, and you'll never miss the meat. Not alfalfa-sprouts-and-mashed-yeast vegatarain - more like fine dining.

Enjoy!

We just got back from Chicago...we're moving there in April and bought a condo in Lincoln Park over the weekend. There are so many places to eat and drink, you could go to a different place for lunch and dinner every day for a year and never repeat...and have some pretty good meals. We had dinner Friday night at Rose Angelis on Wrightwood in Lincoln Park. Good simple Italian, not a fancy place, not expensive. Lisa had Duck Tortellini and I had the Manicotti...both excellent. Reasonable wine list.
Saturday night we had Champagne at Narcisse on Clark. Lots of champagne by the glass and half bottle. We were there early...from 6 to 7:30...and it was pretty empty. Late at night it turns into a "bubbly-sipping mix of fashionistas, young professionals and local models." No thanks. But "Natacha" at the bar was a joy to behold. Then dinner at Pili.Pili on Kinzie. A French-Mediterranean place that's a bit loud but fun and very good food. Seafood Risotto for Lisa and Pan-Seared Scallops with Braised Short Ribs for me. Very tasty food and tables so close together, we heard a riveting conversation next to us as a couple debated the merits of whether they should have an affair with each other.

We then tried to go to a place called Sugar. It's a dessert bar, also on Kinze. I say tried because we were asked at the door if we had a reservation. We didn't think to make a reservation for dessert...country bumpkin that I am...then we were asked for a $10 cover.....TAXI!

Hi,
I don't know if it is still there, but atop ESCADA, there is a lovely cafe, with a view of Michigan Ave and the Sears Tower. I think the food is Italian too.
I have not been for years, 1993, but it used to be my favoirte little place.
