I have "old pictures of SBH. Photos form '69 - 2004. Most of the pictures are glued into family scrap books. The subjects are Mom, Dad me and my brother and the things near and dear to us. House construction, old cars, old friends etc. I will have to look again to see if there are a few that might be interesting for the readers here.
Perhaps one of these days when I have nothing what so ever to do I may scan them and post.

JackR,
Sounds like a great trip, and I'm glad you found the hike okay. I have a crazy friend who wants me to hike with him around that mountain to Saline Beach. It's such a crazy idea that I won't divulge his name but will identify him only by his initials, JEK.
Tim,
It's more fun to go over, not around. BTDT. Great views from the plateau at the end, as well as from the peak of Morne Rouge. Prickers, Goats, and lizard s**t. Don't wear Nike Airs, or you'll need a tow.

From where to where do you hike if you go around the saline mountain? As far as running, if anyone is crazy enough to do it, how about the stretch from Grand Fonde to Toiny? That seems almost doable. Anyone ever do it? Or are there better places to run if I ever get stupid enough (and dressed enough - both of which are doubtful) to do it?
On an unrelated note (SHARK ALERT, SHARK ALERT: PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK) this thread has over 6600 views without "going nekkid" (at least until now, BdR) yet. Is that some kind of record?

IV,
I daily encounter runners from Grand Fond to Toiny as well as the road around Saline, sometimes some more ambitous folks playing in the hills with me.
The goal of the hike in question is to make it from the Washing Machine to Saline, but it's a dubious enterprise planned in the fog of alcohol while sitting in a comforatable chair.

Youth: The ability to plan, and perhaps even execute, such dubious schemes.
Wisdom: The ability to drink one or more (often many more) to the Youths who execute such schemes, both those that return and those who dont make it back.

IV: Saline route is past the Washing Machine, past the Natural Pool and ON and ON. I have run from P. Cul de Sac to Gr. Fond many times when I had better knees. Never nekkid. There.
Washing Machine : park in Gr. Fond where the road turns in and up. Walk the beach to the bluffs and follow the trail up and over.

"many times when I had better knees."
That's why they invented bicycles - for all of us old f_rts that wrecked our knees jogging. They're also perfect for those of us whose lower backs have been known to scream for weeks after trying to jog DOWN from Shirley Heights in Antiqua.

Tim,
BTDT = been there done that.
If you try to go all the way around, it gets steep and sketchy with pretty big drops as you go around the far side of the point.
Better to go over. Walk to around the washing machine, look west, and head up to the low "pass". You can then work your way south up to the plateau, or north to Morne Rouge. Climbing up from Saline, scramble up the hill past the secluded beach. You will discover a hidden ravine which you have to climb down, then back up. Both directions require some climbing/rock scrambling. Principal hazard are prickers. Would not recommend doing this nekkid. I think it is the best hike on the island.
JEK, when will you be there next?

Chip,
Thanks for the guidance. Did you do this event solo or were you accompanied?
Tim
P.S. Since the gezillion megawatt full St. Barthelemy moon is occasionally shrouded by clouds this evening and the mere mention two days ago of this golden orb almost killed mon ami IV, I promise not to mention it again tonight.

I.V.,My wife is a ruuner and runs from G.F to Toiny and back every morning.I go along and walk part of it.She says it's the only place to run on the island.Several times over the years she's hooked up with Letterman. That seems to be his route also.
