Maybe I have missed the point. And I concede that four trips, all in the offseason, does not give me the broadest experience, but here is my view:
I am glad you folks go whenever you go, in season, off season, whenever. Because, when I am there, it is just me and my wife anyway - the occasional meeting with friendly folks from this site being a pleasant exception. I dont care if the villas around me are full or empty or if the restaurants are busy or not or if I actually have to slow my car down as I zip through St Jean. On vacation, I am very much an existentialist. We think St Barts is about US, therefore it is.
I should very much like to thank all the rest of you for going down there and spending money when we are there as well as when we aren't there. Were it not for all you wonderfully generous and philanthropic people subsidizing this private little paradise belonging to me and my wife, they would have to close shop and reopen in Jamaica.
So your efforts, and dollars, are much appreciated by moi.
Merci.

You are all so funny. The only traffic I remember is near my daughters little school, next to the cemetery, think it was rush hour school time. Of course Gouvernors beach was always a challenge on the dirt road, but never a concern. Hey, we've rented a convertable smart car, so soaking up the rays in traffic is just fine by us. It will be the first time without a moke, are there still any out there? The St. Maartin airport was always so funny to me, the cream separating from the milk. You could always tell the SBH voyagers from the rest of the casino, mega shopping mall type. you could actually pick us out of the throng. Oh boy, do I love St. Barths.

Quote:"the casino, mega shopping mall type" You obviously are talking about the Dutch side- considering I am going to Grand Case next January.

Yes rb22, for those of us who refuse to change, there are (thank goodness) a few Mokes, left on SBH. Some are dangerously delapidated, some lovingly restored but for those of us who feel that Moking is a part of the SBH experience there are sill a few of these fun buggies left. I'm about to book two of them for Spring Break.

Andynap! Lucky you ! Grand Case... Rog and I haven't been there for over 3 years. One of the things that makes missing that last fight to St. Barts is knowing you can stay a night in Grand Case and have dinner in one of those many fantastic restaurants. My favourite - Tastevin. How long in Grand Case and where are you staying ?

I assume that is a French restaurant. Is it casual? If I am not mistaken, the word "tastevin" refers to that little "plate" that a wine negotiante wears around her neck as she goes to various wineries to taste and purchase wine still in the barrell. A busy negotiante may taste dozens of young wines in a day with each being poured into the tastevin, sipped and then either spit on the floor (if it is dirt or sawdust) or into a bottle supplied for this purpose.
A curious name, but I like it.
