4-5 bedroom villa
      #22571 - 11/08/04 08:21 AM

Can anyone recommend a nice and affordable (no more than $7000 in low season) 4 or 5 bedroom villa. We are planning a trip to St. Barth with our whole family (my husband and I, my parents, his mom, my brother and his girlfriend) for June or July. We would prefer a 4 bedroom (to save $) but one of the bedrooms must have two beds. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Take a look at SIB DAD
We have stayed there twice with another trip booked in February. Price in June would be $5840. Two nice houses with king sized and two BR attached to the main house one of which has twin beds. Not a "view" villa as it is low and on the beach, but great to walk to shops and Andy's. Wonderful kitchen and US TV, DVD etc.

DAD is the villa that I thought of too.

Note that the WIMCO site says that bedrooms 3 & 4 have two twin beds that can be pushed together to make a king. We found that they were already pushed together, and it was a pain to seperate them. If you book the villa then be sure to ask WIMCO to specify that at least one bedroom be set up as two twins.

Thanks. DAD is one that I had seen on the Wimco site and thought looked good. We have only been to St. Barth once and stayed at Villa Danse du Soleil which is very high. We did not have a problem with bugs (exept ants). I've heard that the closer you are to the beach the worse the bug problem .. in y'alls expierence did DAD have a bug issue?

Another that looks promising online is SIB CEO (Villa Domingue). Any personal opinions about that one?

I too typically stay higher up. I found the mosquitos to be a minor annoyance when I was at DAD, which was in the second half of April. I don't know what June might be like for mosquitos.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with CEO.

I have stayed at CEO twice and loved it. It has unbelievable views and absolutely no mosquitoes thanks to the Pt. Milou breeze. It's an older villa and simple in taste but the location is perfect. There's a small gym in the garage though you can walk "around the block" and get a good workout without too much traffic, especially in June. The one thing I would caution about and you should check this out with WIMCO, is that one of the bedrooms sometimes has a smell to it, a sewage smell. As I have only used one bedroom there, it didn't effect us but I did ask the housekeeper. She said something about when the shower is not being used in there and she uses the washing machine, it causes a smell. But if the room is occupied and then the shower is being used, there would be no smell.
Otherwise I would highly recommend it if you can get that issue figured out. Three bedrooms are downstairs and one is upstairs. The views can't be beat, expansive and you are close enough to the sea to hear the waves.

We were there in April and June and didn't notice any excessive bug issues at DAD.

Thanks for the input.

We have narrowed it down to CEO, JFM and KAR.

WIMCO is checking with SiBarth about the smell in CEO (thanks for pointing it out!) and is supposed to get back to me tomorrow. She assures me that if we get there and smell anything they will move us ... anyone had expierence with such matters? Specifcally, how easy was it to convince WIMCO that you needed to move and were the accomodating in find an avaliable villa that met your needs?

Does anyone have personal opinions about JFM or KAR (or more about CEO)?

Thanks.

PS - DAD did not make our list becuase of its location ... 5 of the 7 in our party are St. Barth Newbies and wanted "the St. Barth view" 24/7 .....

Re: Smell

I have seen similar situations in the past, both in SBH and the US. The trap in any drain helps to keep unpleasant odors out. If a drain isn't used for a long period the water that normally stays in the trap and helps to seal out odors may dry up, allowing those unpleasant odors in. Running the water or dumping a bucket of water in the drain may be sufficient to end the problem.

The above may or may not be the situation in CEO, but it is one possibility.

Kevin's explanation does sound similar to what the housekeeper said. And WIMCO would absolutely move you without a problem if you were unhappy. I think you said you were going in June so you wouldn't have any problems with getting another villa especially at that time. I love CEO-- if you have been to SBH before it is right up the hill from MOZ on the point.
Once we needed to change villas because of construction and sibarth (the SBH armof Wimco) was very accomodating.
Make sure wimco checks with sibarth on the smell issue. They would know if there were other complaints. But I have a feeling that if the room is used, it would be fine.

Carter,
We have stayed at CEO & have not noticed an odor. It is a lovely villa--one of the oldest in Pt. Milou--& it has been updated. The view is breathtaking & you can hear the surf. Send me a PM if you have questions.
Julie
