Excellent suggestions all. I will underscore Commaders Palace. It is on my "top ten" list. It will remind you a bit of Francoise Plantation if you eat in the garden room.

One reason that there are so many restaurants out there is that we all have different opinions, likes, and dislikes. NOLA may not work for you. Court of Two Sisters doesn't work for me - I've had one great meal there, and two that I didn't care for.
It doesn't make either of us wrong. Different experiences make for different opinions.

Commander's Palace is my number one favorite restaurant in the whole world. Try to get a table upstairs by the window looking out at the gigantic live oak in the inside courtyard. If it's crawfish season, that's a pretty wonderful option. Also, they have a bourbon collection as good as I've seen anywhere.
Cafe du Monde is sort of a "must" as well for chickory and beignets.

My son is a freshman at Tulane so we have taken several recent trips to New Orleans and have tried to keep up on the city's favorites. Would add that Upperline and Restaurant August have received great reviews. Of course Commanders Palace is considered to be the quintessential experience. Many have said they go to Commanders for lunch. Have eaten there for dinner and would recommend the bread pudding dessert. If you would like to read some lively discussions regarding New Orleans restaurants go to www.egullet.com and click on forums then Louisiana. Have a great trip there. Personally, will be there this weekend

Another vote for NOLA's. Commander's Palace was lacking something-not quite sure what. If you have the time, you might want to treck on over to Biloxi, MS. to the Beau Rivage for a couple of nights. They have a couple of excellent restaurants, and, dare I say it, a fine buffet with tons of great seafood. Their website is www.beaurivage.com The usually have some excellent entertainment as well.
