We will be down there for the jazz festival. Anyone have any great restaurant recommendations (both high end and local joints). Thanks.

you must do Brennans for brunch and of course have the bananna foster which is where it was invented.......and of course you have to do chicory coffee and beignets at Cafe Du Monde...my favorite places from days gone past are Cafe Ssibas. Veskos, and Bon Tons.......Cafe Ssbas is still there...the other two may or may not be still there....Bourbon Oyster House is owned by Brennans and has the best oysters.....and a funky little place in the garden District called Camilles Grill is good....and of course Acme must be done....

Commander's Palace gets my vote as the best and if it's warm ask for an outside seat. Bayona is very good as is the Bistro at Maison de Ville- both in the Quarter. If you go to the Bistro and it's warm ask for the courtyard. Funky is the Acme Oyster House- stand at the bar and eat those oysters with cold beer. For a touristy spot try the Gumbo Shop.

I don't know if you will be able to get in on the busy weekend, but here are some choices from a someone born and bred in NOLA:

Bayona
Peristyle
Clancy's (Uptown)
Herbsaint (also a S. Spicer restaurant like Bayona)
Acme Oyster House
Court of 2 Sisters for Sunday Brunch
Sugar Magnolia (local joint on Magazine street for a casual NOLA style brunch with no fuss)
K-Paul's
Mr. B's

Hope that helps...there are so many others!! So if you can't get into these restuarants and need more suggestions, just ask!
Have a wonderful trip!

I like NOLA, one of Emeril's restaurants.

I like the Royal Cafe for Saturday lunch, preferably on the second floor outside balcony overlooking the street performers below.

I wasn't too fond of any of Emeril's restaurants. I think he is just coasting on his reputation and has spread himself too thin. Nola was ordinary IMHO.

My favorite is Galatoire's in the quarter..their oysters en brioche is heavenly. Bayona is also great and yes Acme and cafe du Monde should not be missed.

I agree in general on the Emeril empire - but I felt that NOLA was the exception.

Andy,

Agree 100% tried Nola and also Emerils in Vegas found food less than average and service somewhat snobish - We preferred Court of two Sisters and Antoines.

Dickie Brennan's is one of the best traditional steakhouses I have ever been to. Very clubby atmosphere, huge martinis, amazing steaks (charred medium please) and the best sides. Mmmm.
