St. Bart's between Christmas and New Years new
      #97 - 10/07/02 05:25 PM

Libby and I have some friends who will be going to St. Bart's between Christmas and New Year's. We have heard that this is a really crazy and busy time on the island. What is it like when all the big boys, heavy hitters, and yacht owners arrive on the island with their influence and sugar honeys? Just how do the residents handle all of this? Our friends would like to know. They do not fall into any of these categories. I have a feeling some people who post do have some stories to share. Please do so.

Best time to get a table at the Hideaway, none of the big shots would dream of coming.

For many years we have been going to SBH between Xmas and New Year's, as well as in May. This way we get to enjoy the best of both times of year. We really enjoy the energy of the island, the yacht watching, the buzz on the island during the holidays. We have come to expect that it's harder to get some reservations, that the traffic will be worse (or more fun, depending on your POV), that the beaches will be more crowded (or provide more sites to see). But some of our favorite memories are the fireworks, the local decorations, the wonderful treats at Marche, Rotisserie and the Bakeries, the abundance of champagne and of course the frenetic dancing on New Year's Eve at the quay when it feels like the whole island shows up to dance in front of the yachts. We've danced with strangers, tourists and locals alike and have had the most wonderful time. The island is very special this time of year. Just go with the flow and relax...
