Hey bud! Ya got a euro to spare? Just want to get a latte ...
What's going on with infrastructure (garbage in, garbage out) these days?

P.S. There's a rumor going around the island about the possibility of a large hotel's being developed behind Saline Beach. If the rumor has any truth to it, that could be the point where the smelly brown stuff hits the rapidly twirling blades on this and similar issues.
Speaking of smelly, wouldn't the often stench from the salt pool be enough of a deterrent?

Not a problem binnie, they've got it figured out. They will set up giant Lysol sprayers throught the property to keep the stench under control lol.

And I wonder what took so long? There certainly is enough vacant ground. Could there be a better place to put a hotel?
There is also a rule on this island.
Wait until you hear the same story from five independant sources and still expect it not to be true.

I think that's a universal maxim.

Well I have no idea if anything can be done for St Jean beach, but I am thankful for those years I had there before Luis destroyed that beach. Those were truly the most relaxing days of my life, but those days are now just a pleasant memory.
Hotel on Saline? Glad I'll never see that.

charlie,
And I remember before Hurricane Luis when the sands of Columbier Beach went almost all the way around that cove. Mother nature giveth and mother nature.....

I've spent a good portion of my life living on the water and that is exactly what happens......problem is it can take months, years or decades, depending on what dynamics are at play for sand to re appear.....lets take Petit Anse for example....we had a beach ten years ago.....than we lost it about 6 years ago..now we have a bigger beach than ever, but it took 6 years.......businesses cant wait that long, which from my perspective is just too bad for the businesses......next time do your homework and don't build on a beach...thats just dumb......and home owners who build on a beach get even less sympathy from me and many others whose tax dollars have funded their stupidity

Seems to me the beaches were probably there when Columbus landed and have been ever since. Unless some dynamic has changed to the effect tides and waves have on the land and the ocean floor, or we've done something on-shore to cause a change, then the beaches will come back. Probably a little more reassuring for Saline, Colombier, etc. than for St. Jean.

Well, the beach building initiative passed for my little Fire Island town last week, so here come the dredges, slurry pumps and bulldozers...
We'll build up the beach, which will then wash out + drift down to the west...hopefully, the sand from the towns to the east of me will then replenish ours...LOL

Interesting article on the Econmic Benefits of Beach Nourishment....
For every dollar spent on beach renourishment in Miami Beach, the return is $1470... In California, $1 spent turns into $320 in tax receipts.
Good stuff.
